Icon5 To renew, or not to renew, that is the question!

So, as May slowly sneaks upon us I realized... our annual passes are up for renewal!! YIKES! The annual renewal price for two DVC passes will be $608, NOT including tax! Normally I'd be ready for this and just set aside the $ to do it b/c I know it's WELL worth it in the long run BUT I am running SO SHORT on $ with this BIG LA/Disneyland/Palm Springs/Vegas trip coming so soon!! We don't even have as much money set aside for this trip as we THOUGHT we would at this point.

So, taking that into consideration I don't know if I should renew or not?

* Daniel won't be going to WDW again until Nov. for a week, I will be going in August for 4 days AND November. Not sure if we'll go again next year before May? MAYBE a little 4 day trip in early May next year before they expire again.

Should I just renew mine and pay for his 7-day park hopper come November? Ugh, I know I should just renew but things are SO tight right now.

What should I do?

Re: To renew, or not to renew, that is the question!

Don't do something that's going to strap you for cash or make you stressed out right now. I've been there, and it's not worth it!

What does the $$ look out if you renew yours and then buy a hopper for Daniel in November? If that will make you more comfortable now, it might be worth considering.

Perhaps you could consider renewing one DVC pass now, and getting another new one later? (If that's possible?) This would leave you on different schedules as far as renewing in the future, but maybe that would help keep your finances balanced so you wouldn't have to shell out so much at once every time!

I wish you luck making your decision!!

Thanks Dz, I am actually wondering if I should just NOT renew either pass then rebuy them at the DVC discount price later on, the difference between renewal & new pass really isn't that much. Then they'd be valid for longer & I wouldn't have to figure out how to shell out $620 in the next two weeks.

HMMM.

The more I crunch the numbers it REALLY wouldn't make sense to just renew mine & buy D a 7 day park hopper in November. A 7-day park hopper is only like $40-50 LESS than renewing our annual.

In that case, I say buy new ones later! That was you can breathe easily for now, and they'll be good for longer so maybe you can squeeze in another trip or two before they expire next year.

Can you do yours now and do Daniels later? Then they will be due at different times next year?

This is a toughie..

I ended up not renewing my annual pass until I fly back to the states. The month that I lose doesn't justify the reduced renewel fee.

I had season passes for all four of us ever since my Heir Apparent turned ten. And for two years I bought season passes for all. Last year I could only afford two.

This year I am struggling with the decision to renew a season pass, as Erik has informed me that he doesn't get to go to Disneyland unless I take him. Ergo, the price is now coming into play more than ever.

In the end, I will probably renew, as it's cheaper than paying for the five or seven day hopper.

How much will it cost to buy two new APs at a later date with your DVC discount?

Re: To renew, or not to renew, that is the question!

Okay, forgive me if I am way off base here, lol. I don't know much about the rules of trading in tickets and how APs work, so be kind

Can you buy a non-expiry hopper for you for your Aug trip plus a day (?) for November. Use the ticket in Aug, then trade that ticket in for a credit towards an AP for yourself in November when you have the money for it?

Again, I don't know how the credit for unused tickets works with APs, but I am under the impression you may be able to do this. You could just buy your sweetie's Ap in November when you get yours and that way you two will be on the same renew schedule.

Re: To renew, or not to renew, that is the question!

Like everyone else is stating... perhaps buy the Ap's at a later time when you both can use a few times over a year period. Maybe in Nov as an early christmas gift for one another so then you have until Nov 08 to go for as many times as you can. good luck with your decision.

Do they have to be renewed now, can't it be during the course of the year? Not sure how they work.

I say buy the APs later... closer to your next trip. That way, you may be able to squeeze in an extra trip with Daniel next year and use the APs for that trip as well!

I think you can only upgrade your tickets within 14 days of first use.

With that said, get the APs later, closer to your trip!

If you're already feeling strapped, I think the only thing you'll do by renewing now is have buyers remorse afterwards. I would wait and renew later.
