Dumb Vacation Planning Videos

I love Disney World, it's my favorite vacation place and can't ever see too much of it, whether on TV or by one of their vacation planning videos.

However....yesterday I received their latest video (on DVD, actually) and while it was cool to see the great views of the entire resort, I became pretty annoyed with the video too. How so? Well, for one thing, there's this guy in a red shirt who pops up from time to time to tell about certain WDW features, and he's so annoying, unfunny, and just plain irritating that I feel like jumping into the video and beating his head in with a baseball bat. He's that annoying. And the other thing is how Disney tweaks their own attractions to make them look better (as if they needed to, they're great as it is). For example, when they discuss the Tower of Terror, they make it seem as if you're literally crowded into an elevator and everyone's standing up on the ride. Sorry, but that's not the case at all. When they showed Space Mountain, they're showing people sitting in cars that allow 2 people in the same seat. Again, sorry...but that's not how it is. You get 3 people in one car, one behind the other. And if it's not that red-shirted idiot who gets on my nerves, it's some of the other people spouting off the cheesiest of lines without sounding the least bit sincere.

On the other hand, the video isn't ALL bad. The DVD has special features that allow you to check into the resorts and parks in different areas on the interactive map. That was pretty good. I wish they had more attractions in the "attraction previews" section. I think they could go a little more indepth in their next videos with the sections of the parks and a little close on the resorts too.

hehehee Silent, I probably shouldn't be giggling, but your post made me smile. I'll never look at the Red Shirt Wonder the same way again... :D

It's like the Zip-ah-dee-doo-dah channel at the resorts - the same stuff OVer and OVer and OVer again, airbrushed over and glossed up. Yet, I can't imagine a vacation without it.

My DD watches this video over and over and over as if it is a "real" video that we paid for. I just think it is exciting for her to see on TV what she will experiance in a few months. And it was FREE!:)

Y'all are too funny! :laugh

Is the red-shirted guy you refer to the same one that explains FASTPASS to the lady like she hasn't got a clue? He's the one I can't stand!

Yes, DisneyAnne....that's the guy. Man, he just ticks me off so bad! Where do they find these people and why don't they just send them back? He tells her how FastPass works, and then practically pushes her away like "ok, off you go....on your way now...bye bye then."

The guy that you are referring to is a CM at the Millionaire attraction at Disney Studios. I saw him there a year ago.

By the way, I don't like the tone of this thread. It seems a little negative to me....and don't we all have enough negative in our lives? Lets focus on the good and positive, please.

My DS and I really enjoy the DVD, we watch it all the time. I'll have to pay attention next time, I have not really noticed the guy enough to know what he does that is so annoying. I think the video is a great way to show my DS what he can expect when we go to WDW.

:p C'mon Trishb...just poking a little fun and recognizing a common opinion on the video... I think everyone here agrees that the videos are wonderful, and we all use them as a tool to feed our Disneyaddictions. The guy is probably a nice guy but his portrayal of a typical CM is a little exaggerated. Just think of it as a review of a castmember in a play... Nothing personal about the actor, just critiquing the acting. Have a great night everyone!

OK, so here's my problem. I've had the dvd for a month, and can't bring myself to watch it. Why?...Because DW won't even THINK about going more often than once every 3 yrs. and we went last summer. So, it would be just too frustrating. Bad enough that I can't stop hanging out around here at DC-the video would be just too much. And, to make matters worse, goofygirl, my DD, will be Bat Mitzvah in 2 yrs., so, unless she decides to hit WDW as her Bat Mitzvah trip, I have no idea when I'll be able to go again. This summer, we're going to Wmsburg and D.C. I was able to convince DW to spend 1 day at King's Dominion in between the two cities, and that's great, but it's not WDW. So, there's my lament.:dazed :heart :)

I agree disneyanne, I love my plannning video, in fact the kids and I watched it tonight as part of our excitement building. When the fastpass part was on, I started laughing thinking about this thread and my kids totally thought I was nuts:p

How to get around once every 3 years

Try letting your wife look at the online WDW restaurant menus and reviews, and then let her pick the days and restaurants. Then let her call and make the PS reservations. (and oh yes, you need hotel reservations and park tickets too-but you can take care of that, don't bother her with that). This strategy worked for me.
