Re: changes in dining plan.

The meal minus the appetizer is fine but they should not take out the gratuity. We always left a little more (or a lot more) depending on the service, anyway, but to completely remove it after having it in there stinks. The Deluxe Plan to me is just insane. Who the heck can walk around a park in the heat when you are stuffed full of food? I can't imagine eating 3 full meals per day in WDW - and I like to eat.

Re: changes in dining plan.

I guess I would of thought more people would be bothered by the new price of the DELUXE then the tipping over all.

I LOVE the idea of tip not included though the dropping the plan 1$ is a joke.
Its about time that these servers that are not being polite learn its not a fast 18% at the end of the meal. We are good tippers with good service, this will make all those if servers fine tune there serving style!

HEy here is a thought wonder what will happen to the servers at Ohana when they give you all the food at once an take all the stuff off the table before your done! I will be curious how the reviews coome in after this starts.

I know I will still do the regular plan , I love having it already paid for. Not sure about the other plan have to run the numbers;) there are a few 2TS credit places I would like to try that I have not yet

Yes and no. We usually budget 250.00 per day for the 4 of us (a lot of counter service restaurants for that amount) and that would be about the same, except that you can still go to the more upscale restaurants and you will get a better deal, I think
And if I read that correctly up there, it says you can choose table service restaurants or counter service

3) A new Magic Your Way Plus DELUXE Dining Plan will debut in 2008. This plan will include, per person, per day: three meals, your choice of table service or counter service (appetizer included in the dinner); two snacks; and a resort refillable mug.

Sounds like still a good deal to me.

Me, me! I do somedays!

I like that the deluxe plan will give you the choice of table service or counter service. We usually do 2 sitdowns everyday.

And, I honestly think gratuity should never be included. Why should a server bother if he/she knows he/she will be getting an 18% tip, no matter what?

Re: changes in dining plan.

I still have to digest this one...its not settling quite right yet. I really don't like the fact they are omitting the gratuity. I always like not having to worry about it. If we received extra special service, then we tipped extra. It was that simple. I hate having to think while on vacation. Thats what I do all these months prior....planning and thinking, calculating and strategizing. By the time I get there, I just want to relax.

mildly unrelated thought when there is free dinng do the servers get a tip after all disney is the employer and they do not get paid for the meals so do they in turn give the servers a tip.

Re: changes in dining plan.

Although it was much more convenient to have the tip already added - I think maybe Disney listened to the guests complaints that service has been down since the CM's knew their tip was already included.

We experienced this only once on our last trip. Our server at Mama Melrose was not good at all and it was pretty obvious that she could care less since she knew she would automatically be tipped.

I think the deluxe sounds decent so if you do decide to do 2 TS in one day you can. There's not so much figuring out to do of how many TS's you have left. I wonder how it will work for Signature meals though.

Re: changes in dining plan.

I remember being asked by Disney to take a survey on these changes- they had it set up in different scenarios and I was asked to rate them and what was the likelyhood that I would purchase one of them. It was interesting. I am with Dana-I don't think the deluxe plan is all that bad and I also like controlling my tips in a restaurant. I do not really care about the amount of food (If they take appetizers away that's fine- way too much food to begin with)-I love the idea that my meals and snacks are paid for and I don't have to guess on the pricing of things. My money I take is strictly for gas and souveniers. It'll be interesting to see how this effects the DDP and if it turns people away.

aw now, come on mm, it's really not that hard to figure out 20%.

Do it like this - first figure out 10%, then double that, or, add 10% + 10% and get = 20%
In other words, I have to agree with posters, gratuity included in the DP can/will make for lazy and impolite severs.

Now let's talk about the appetizers, what's up with that? Why not make the portions a little smaller, who in the world can eat heaps of food piled on to one's plate anyway? Portion control wouldn't hurt any of us (I know you can limser, I was talking about other people)

Re: changes in dining plan.

Keep in mind that even though allears is a very reliable site this is by no means an official announcement!

On rumored changes, I can only speak as a Cast Member. When we get a discount gratuity is included and I have noticed service drop drastically when the server knows that they are already getting there tip.

I have no qualms about servers working to earn a tip. I honestly think that this will provide the best service possible for our guests.

Re: changes in dining plan.

I am absolutely disgusted by this change-
do the math!
18% of the total bill gone (gratuity)
min $4 for appetizer on a $40 per person is 10% also gone

Since when is approximately a 30% increase ever acceptable? You were not saving 30% by being on the plan in the first place!

if the counter service is about $9 and the table service is about $25 and the snack is $4 that adds up to $38. where is there any savings??

Re: changes in dining plan.

I am sure the servers will have a problem also...for the guests who don't know how to tip or stiff them...they will be busting their butts to make a great experience for them and then get nothing in return or less than their 18% as they would have previously on the plan.
Like I said before...it is a good thing for the ones who don't give the service and earn their tip...We went to Crystal Palace for dinner and the server we had was absolutely the worst I have ever seen at any place including outside of Disney...I tipped every other server $5-10 extra for awesome service and nothing extra for her...she didn't even deserve the 18%.
I still have mixed feelings, but I am waiting for the finalized plan and will have to do some figuring to see what would be best for us.

Re: changes in dining plan.

I also have mixed feelings about the changes. I like the dining plan the way it is, but the tip we always leave extra anyway so that won't affect us. And there is a lot of food so who knows. I liked being able to order an appetizer, but it was always a lot of food. 70$ a day is way to much for my family we would be spending almost 200$ a day on food, which it sounds like a good idea because you could definitely get your money's worth, but I couldn't do more than one table service a day anyway. Also if you stay for a week, that's like another 1000$ that I could be spending on souvenirs.

Re: changes in dining plan.

I agree, this is a big increase in cost - loosing both the tip and appetizer for only $1 decrease!

And I would prefer to be able to choose either appetizer or dessert, pricing is about equal and for our family, sharing an appetizer and a dessert is our usual approach.

I think this will still be tweaked before they finalize this plan. If you decided to do mostly counter serice meals and just a few table service instead of one a day,the plan may not be worth the cost.I liked the idea of all included, even when the service was not the best, it still was bearable.I will wait and see...
