What are your Tips for Pal Mickey?

I know MANY of us can't wait to buy our Pal Mickey and use him! In reading some posts and articles about Pal Mickey(PM) I noticed some problems. Such as being in one park, or another place, and PM reminds you of a show or parade.

* How do you make sure your PM downloads as you walk into a park entrance? Is there a certain way he should be facing? Is there a certain place we should go in at to make sure he downloads?

*Is there a volume on PM? Sounds like they need one, so if you are in a noisy area, you can turn him up.

*What kinds of batteries does he use? Can we use rechargable ones? How long does the battery last?

I know that only a handful of people have bought/used a Pal Mickey yet, but any help would be great!!!

There is no volume control on him, nor any way to be sure he downloads correctly. He comes with a belt clip so he can go on your fanny pack or belt, that way he always faces outward. There is an on/off switch on his back that you switch on when you are in disney, which must make him able to download. That way your batteries wont get worn down when you are at home.

NOW you tell me Crystal! LOL!

Our batteries are dead. We bought rechargeables and are using those with no trouble. The kids don't know about it yet, but it's shut off and packed away. Played with it a few moments before locking him up, I'll checkhim now before we leave.

Thanks for the tip about facing him forward.

I got my Pal Mickey on April 22nd, the first day he was available. Used him for a week, all the time (we had my cousin's kids with me). Used him again last weekend for 3 full days. He is still running on the original batteries., which are 3 AA by the way. There is some indication now that I need to think about replacing the batteries.

No volume as crystalrp said. You can hear him fine in your hotel room, but once you are in the parks with the surrounding noise, you need to hold him to your ear to hear him. If you press his buttons or his hands again within 15 seconds, Pal Mickey will repeat his message so the others in your party can listen.

Pal Mickey receives the transmitted signals through his nose. We were told that the ideal placement of Pal Mickey is at waist level so he can receive the signals from both the ground and air.

My Pal Mickey gave us erroneous info only one time and that was on our last day using him. He was telling us to line up for one of the nighttime shows in the parks and we were back at the hotel and the time was past the nighttime showtimes! I took it as an indication that his batteries need to be replaced.

We go back for an extended stay in a few weeks. By the end of that stay, I should have a pretty good indication of how well Pal Mickey works with the updating.

Pal Mickey is a lot of fun to have in the parks. I did notice quite a few more people carrying him around last weekend than the first week he was available. And more Cast Members are aware of him too, asking you all about him and wanting to play with him.

Thanks for all the input guys!! I knew I could count on you! We are going memorial day weekend, just for the day, and I'm thinking we'll pick up Pal Mickey then. That way we'll have a week to play with him and get batteries and all that stuff before we go for our week stay.

I'll know to keep him facing out, and at waist height, also! I'll be sure to post our experience about Pal Mickey once I get him too!
:D

I'm going to add a tip now.

I put Pal Mickey on my camera strap that i carried around w/me on my shoulder. This way he was at waist height, facing forward, and it was easy to *slide* him on up to my ear to hear what he was saying. You can hear him giggle, and feel him shake, but its hard to hear what he is saying.

The games he plays are very easy to do, and a good past time if you have a wait for a show, lines, or a bus ride!!

The batteries that came w/our Pal Mickey are still working...and we used him a lot during our week stay!!

I'm glad I got our Pal Mickey. He was fun to have around!!;)
