December Weather?

I am leaving December 10. What is the weather like in Florida in December? I am from PA so the winter can be kind of bitter here. I mean do people swim outside? Are we talking tanktops and capris with flip flops? I was planning to bring a few hoodies (some lighter and some heavier). I have just been assuming it will be warm during the day and just a little cool at night. My mom is doubting it and thinks I need to pack for cooler weather. What do you think?

Re: December Weather?

Well, it can be really warm one day and really cold the next... I am in Ohio and the pools at Disney are heated, so we swim!! I don't think my girls would tolerate not swimming!

Anyway, I suggest layers and clothes for the seasons... COLD/HOT

It can be a challenge to pack for a Dec trip

Re: December Weather?

Take you Mom's advice! It can be cool. My best advice it watch the weather channel or go to weather channel on line before you leave and check the weather. We live in Illinios so we are used to cold weather. Since 1996 we have gone to WDW in December about 8 times. We have experienced all types of weather, from shorts and t-shirts to jeans and winter coats.
But for the most part, it is warm during the day ( shorts or capris, T-shirt or sweatshirt) but once the sun goes down it can be cool.
I would be prepared at have at least one or two pairs of pants and a lightweight jacket. We always pack a few cheap pairs of gloves also. Those strechy ones you can get for $ 1.00 at walmart are $6.00 at WDW! We have used them many times at night!
Have a great trip. We will be there 12/14 to 12/17 for a short trip for MVMCP!

That's what we experienced. One year we wore summer clothes the whole week we were there except at night. Had to wear a jacket or sweatshirt. Another year we had to wear fall jackets during the day and a winter jacket and gloves at night. No swimming that year. Be prepared for everything.

Re: December Weather?

We have experienced the same as others have said. Hot and cold, so you have to pack a little bit of everything. Even though it can change in a day, the best advice is to start watching the temperatures down there a couple of weeks before you go.

Re: December Weather?

We live in Orlando. Watch the weather channel before trip to see if we are getting a cold front. It was 41 degrees last night and 75 degrees today. Pools at Disneey are heated.

Re: December Weather?

Check the extended forecast before you leave and pack accordingly. December weather is so fickled. Make sure you can bring items you can layer because the temps at the beginning of the day vary greatly towards the end of the day.

The first time we went in the winter it was freezing. I think the high was in the 50s everyday we were there. The next year I figured the temps would be similar to the prior year so I packed all warm clothing.............. wrong!!! The highs were in the upper 80s everyday. I had to go to the Nike outlet and buy the kids a bunch of shorts. I was a rookie then and learned my lesson the hard way.

Re: December Weather?

I have gone in january twice and packed layered owfits. The morning is chilly and the afternoon can get warm enough for a Tshirt. I would stick with that kinda idea...you should pack a few pair of shorts, but I wouldn't break out the tank tops...capris would be ok if you bring hoodies.

Re: December Weather?

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I appreciate this so much. I would have possibly froze my tush off if it weren't for all of you.

I still plan to pack summer things (they are tiny and don't take up much room). But I will be packing about twice as much warm stuff. I also plan to include gloves, a hat, and a scarf. If nothing else the hat and scarf will be cute for the MVMCP. I am also going to bring a jacket. Can't hurt and I don't want to have to buy one.

You are all awesome! Thank you so much.

Re: December Weather?

DEFINITELY bring a jacket...a warm one! And bring cheap gloves. We have been in Dec a bunch of times and have NEEDED our winter coats! Like MickeyRon said, it can be really warm one day, and really cold the next! I really think summer clothes are out, though. I might pack capris and tees for during the day, and bring a hoodie for night time. I might even change into jeans for nighttime. Oh, each trip, we haven't really been able to wear flip flops much either in Dec!

HAVE A BLAST!

Same goes for PA. I know Maine is a little colder than PA. But it gets really bitter here in December and January. So I have a feeling it's still gonna feel warm in comparrison.

One year we went in January and it was in the 50's during the day. Now that felt pretty good for us folks from Wisconsin. We wore light jackets or sweatshirts. We had to laugh though. All the cm's had on their jackets of course, but also wore wool hats and gloves. Every year we have the same conversation with a cm. "How can you stand the cold winters". We ask "How can you stand the HOT summers".
