just wondered about others experience

as most of you know ..we park our van when we get to the resort and only rely on Disney transportation .. on another thread I said one of the things I liked about riding the bus was that almost every time we strike up a conversation with someone else during the ride. Whats odd to me is this has never happen on the monorail. at least not to us. I like to meet people .. and as you may have guessed I like to talk *grin* ..the girls are the same way ..they enjoy talking to other kids and adults on the bus rides to and from the parks. but now its kinda bugging me .. why dont people talk to each other on the monorail like they do on the bus rides. any ideas? or thoughts about this ?

Once I started thinking about it I agree with you. Perhaps it is because the bus ride is longer. Also, the monorail just seems so quiet... almost as if anything you say could be heard by the whole car. My DH and I usually speak very softly or not at all unless to point out things to our DD to look at. Interesting comment Tink!

Oh no. a twenty minute elevator ride! The week we will be there I guarantee that whatever area my family is in will not be quiet. My three boys are never quiet! Ha!

By the way, How do I go about getting to ride in the front car of the monorail? I read that this is possible, that if you are able to you get a "drivers liscence". This would be so awesome for my oldest son who adores trains!

Thanks!

I know we have had some great converstaions w/other bus riders. I"m a rather quiet person, so I never really strike up conversations to begin with, but on a bus, you are so close to others, it seems quite rude not to! Hehe:D

One time, when we got on the monorail, and it was standing room only, we struck up a conversation w/a man and his wife who were standing right next to us, and found out they live close to wdw, and travel over just to have dinner or just to ride a ride or two! It was pretty neat talking to them!

To get up front of the Monorail, you just have to ask. If you are willing to wait for another one to come by, if that one if full, you might just get lucky. At my friends bacherolett party there in Feb, it took us a lot of tries to get on. Finally on our last ride, on the last day, we got lucky!! It was a beautiful day out and just a really neat ride! We didn't get a drivers liscence, and neither did the other two who got on w/us at another stop. Maybe they just save them for kids, which is fine w/me. :D

Well, I still liked being noticed and mentioned, even if it was an accident.

We always strike up conversations on the bus becuase my mom loveeesss to talk. Only occasionaly do we talk to the people next to us on the monorail, I wonder why? One time we started talking to a british family and we found out they were staying at the same hotel as us. I always have wanted to ride up front! but im always afraid to ask, and thats the only time my mom doesnt speak up, lol.

dang it ASK!!!!!!! I had to laugh about that though .. my friend Dixe always talks about how the british are reserved .. and it took a lot of convincing to get her to ask about riding up front!

You have to speak up to ride up front by this I mean ask the CM standing there. We waited in the first line so that our DS's could ride up front. We stood there waiting patiently, however, we didn't say anything to the CM standing there (how nieve we were) well when the train came in a lady with her granddaughter and grandson push in front of us and ask to ride up front in the monorail. I said excuse we were waiting first. The CM ask if we had ask to ride up front (I could'nt lie I said no) well she let the ladies grandkids on and the women (grandma) was nice enough to allow one of my children to ride with her grandchildren. Lesson learned that day speak up!

I have noticed that when we ride the monorail, people are quieter on the return ride...I think everyone is tired...we haven't done the busses yet, but we will when we go this time.

I am very talkative and my 14 yo says i will talk to anyone...Tink if you and I are ever in the same monorail car together w/ Joe's mom, no one else will get a word in edgewise :)
LOL

lol add my 14 year old granddaughter in too because she has never met a stranger!! the 11 year old will talk too but not as much :)
I think its so much fun when you talk to people and find out where they are from. I remember several years ago we were having breakfast at the food court at DixieLandings and the 14 year old who was 5 at the time was singing "little bunny foofoo" .. the people at the table next to us ..well there little girl chimed in and we got to talking to them, they were from N.Y.

Here is my theory:

I think the Monorail is more like a ride. You are a little distracted looking out the window to strike up conversations. Plus the Monorail rides are a lot shorter than the bus rides are too.

Buses are just not as exciting so you tend to pay more attention to your fellow passengers than what's going on outside.

I may be wrong, but that's what it seems like to me.
