How do we all get there and abou how far do you live from disney
After reading another thread it made me wonder how do many of us get to disney. Is it by car, plane, train and on an average how far from home do we travel to reach our favorite destination? 50 miles, 100 miles, 250 miles, 500miles, 1000 miles, 1250 miles, 1500 miles, 1750 miles, 2000miles.
We have done both plane and car. It about 1,200 miles form our house to disney's door. I like different things about each way of travel. The plane I like because you can leave at 6:30am and be in the park by 10:30am it much faster mode of transport but it's a little more difficult to travel post 9-11. The car was nice because I could pack snack and extra stuff (beach towels, goggles, pillows) That I couldn't pack when we fly. The ride not that bad for us it mostly straight down 95. I'm not sureif we will fly or drive down in Oct. we are still deciding that one. Paula

We travel by car, we live on the west coast of Florida, so it only takes us about 1.5 - 2 hrs to get there, depending on the traffic and construction on I-4.

DH (who post MS was a truck driver that drove to Orlando regularly) says its 998 miles from our door to the mouse house :)
we use to fly when the girls were babies. but even before 9/11 there were things about flying that we started to hate .. one being that we couldnt get a full first day / last day at WDW. So now we drive. Whats great about driving is that we get down there early in the morning between 6 and 7 am .. get checked in and if our room isnt ready we have bell service store our bags and head for the parks. Then on the last day we stay till the last park closes.

Paula,
We also live in NJ (Ocean City) and we always fly. The main reason is that our vacations are limited, due to the nature of our jobs, to 5 to 7 days at a time and we don't want to use 1 1/2 to 2 days of WDW time for driving. The second reason is that we are only about 20 minutes from the Atlantic City Airport, and there is a 7:00 AM flight that gets us to Orlando by 9:30 AM. We lose very little time on our travel day! Some day, when our schedules allow longer vacations, we would love to take a drive that would enable us to do some sightseeing on the way, maybe spend a few days at Hilton Head or Vero Beach, and then head over to WDW. That is my idea of a great vacation. graybill

I am so jealous of all you that live so close to WDW I be there constantly. I'd feel comfortable doing that drive with the kids alone.
graybill, how do you like flying out of AC do you take spirit. We live about one hour for AC so actually Philly Internation is closer for us.

Everyone who lives near WDW is so lucky! My husband and I live in Vancouver, BC and therefore, it is quite far...we are fairly close to Disneyland by plane (just under 3 hours), but to get to Florida the travel time is usually about 6 - 7 hrs. The time change also gets us! I would love to live close enough to drive :)

We have always driven to disney, even when we lived in Maryland. I live in south florida, Miami/ fort lauderdale area, so it is about 230 miles. And depending on traffic it can take 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours. I'm trying to convince my parents to buy AP's since we go so much and it's right up the road.

We do fly Spirit out of AC Airport and have been very happy with the airport and the airline.
Spirit's prices have always been very competitive and they have a lot of specials that they offer on line. The only problem is that they only offer 2 flights a day to Orlando for most of the year, but the schedule works well for us. The AC Airport is small and very easy to use. There is a long term parking lot which is about $4 a day, and we usually manage to park within 50 to 75 yards of the terminal(We generally drop the luggage and all but the driver at the curb right outside of the check-in area). You can get in and out of the parking lot with a credit card. Very convenient! The best thing is being 20 minutes away. graybill

I always drive (confession...I've *never* been on a plane. the closest I've come to a plane is a KC135 at MacDill AFB, that my ex works on....and that was on the ground!;) )
I don't know the exact milage (i'll clock it tomorrow when we drive up to EPCOT) but it only takes us about 90minutes - 2 hours to get there, also depending on I-4 traffic.

WOW! I had no idea there were so many Floridians on this board! I wish I was so close...
I have done it all - plane, train, automobile Most recently, we took the van. I will probably never take the train again - it was not comfortable at all! I can say I've done it though! :p We live in Irmo, SC which is about 7 hours away including a stop for gas and bathroom break. (Yes, I said A stop - one, uno, un, solo, less than 2 - when we are on our way down, we are on a mission!);) |

Wow, good question. We always fly, no other logical choice for us. I am not sure exactly how far it is flying, but I went to mapquest and it came out as over 2,400 miles if we were to drive. 40 hours! Fortunately, we have two non-stop flights per day, and it is just over 4 hours.
Disneyland, we are a good 10 hour drive away, and we almost always drive, unless it is for a real short trip. Personally, I am kind of glad we live far away, it would be too tempting to just go for a long day if we were close enough. I would never get any work done.
