Re: Son wants to Work in WDW

A large majority of people start for Disney in entry-level jobs, and work their way into management after a while. But if your son is willing to wait until after he has a degree, he can enter the company at management level.

Maybe your son should consider the college program once he reaches that age? This would give him the opportunity to work for Disney while he's in school, and possibly help him decide what area of Disney he does (or doesn't) want to work in.

Re: Son wants to Work in WDW

ah... we are alike.

I decided I wanted to become an Imagineer at age nine. And to this day (sixteen, baby!), I still plan to become an Imagineer (architecture... I did switch from architecture to engineering and then back to architecture, though).

Well... the good thing about jobs at Disney is there's a lot of options. You could search the casting website for ideas.

If he plans on Imagineering, there's a lot of great books out there. Imagineering Field Guide to Magic Kingdom/Epcot/Animal Kingdom... um... Imagineer's Workout... and that big hardcover one... can't remember the name. I'll go check.

I guess the big thing is for him to decide what he likes... enjoys doing. I'm not really an expert, since I'm just in high school, and one would say I will likely change my major many times (though I disagree... I know what I want and I plan to get it).

I suppose try stuff and see if it works. My Xhileration Robotics Camp (Tri-County Tech) and Principles of Engineering class (uuuggg...) helped me eliminate engineering (robotics and computer programming, especially).

My DS wants to work there too...and we were thinking Imagineering was where he would be best suited..he already has plans for new rides in Magic Kingdom. So we'll have to check out those books too. I have already showed him this site: Disney CareerStart Program - Program Overview
So he can know there is an option when he graduates and before he has to make any decisions. We also have other programs we talked about doing. So I hope this site gives you ideas...mines only 10 so he has a long ways to go but knowing sooner than later is a huge help.

The best thing he can do is study and get good grades. Convince your son that with good grades come all the options and availability that he won't have otherwise.

I've worked at the Disney Store, all for getting the "discounts" at the Disneyland Hotel..

Ditto! A college degree is a great achievement. And the CP seems like it is the best of both worlds.
