Suspected Disney Scam Artist Arrested After Traffic Violation | NETCOT.com


Jason MacLaren has been arrested in Brevard County and named the suspect in the scams that ripped of dozens of Disney guest members. MacLaren, 23, would call guests rooms posing as a Disney employee selling deeply discounted tickets and asking for credit card numbers. This is not the first time he has been suspected of this crime, two years ago he was caught scamming 45 victims out of $30,000 at Disney. Investigators say they have surveillance video of MacLaren calling guests at the Polynesian Resort, Pop Century and Wilderness Lodge along with three other resorts. MacLaren is a former Disney employee and has enjoyed Walt Disney World since he was a kid.

I am glad he got caught..but isn't that last sentence a little odd. He's been enjoying WDW since he was a kid? Random.

I think that means he has been scamming people at WDW since he was a kid...it probably started with him scamming his parents.

(At MK once I saw a mother daughter team working one of the post ride stores. The daughter was in a park stroller. The mother positioned the stroller and her self to shield the daughter and then daughter took items off the shelf and into a bag. I pointed it out to a CM. I wonder how many of these crews work the lines of guest??)

I am so glad he has been caught- its so easy to think none of us would fall prey to a scam like that, but if he was calling internally I know for sure my elderly parents in law (who love WDW) would fall for that hook line and sinker purely based on the fact that the call was from inside the resort.

I'm glad they caught him and I hope he does some serious jail time. He must have been in the lobby of each resort using a house phone because they have him on tape, that would mean he would have been in the lobby. I hope there's enough there to send him away for a long time.

Yes, that's possible. I thought he had the names of the people in the room however....thought that's what the original story said. how could he have the names without inside help was my question? Did CMs notice the same person in the lobby using the house phone all the time, but not staying there..once or twice doing he wouldn't be noticed, but he would stick out over time.
