I Survived

an entire day at Six Flags. It was 55 and rained the entire day. I really don't enjoy Six Flags on a good day, however, today was just bad. By afternoon I could see my breath!!! I was dressed for it but the kids were not. They were in shorts and tank tops and so very wet by noon.

I am sure the other teachers are so sick of hearing me say 'at Disney World this and at Disney world that.' Disney just knows how to do theme parks, no question. I tried to watch how many times I said that today, but it was hard.

Today is June 2 and not all of the park was open, only about half of the shows were going and many of the restaurants were not open. It is this way year after year. I would be really mad if I had paid full price to get in and the park was only part open. At least when I go to Disney I know I will get to enjoy the entire park.

Hi, DisneyTeacher!

I do the same thing here at our six flags in IL. and end up comparing it to WDW with six flags not coming up the winner.
We are going in June for the day and I'm calling it our "practice for WDW biggie rides day":laugh
I know if they like some of the six flags coasters and biggie rides, then they will LOVE the Disney ones!!!!!!!!!! :) Up until now, they wouldn't even LOOK at a roller coaster, so we'll see what happens.

The best thing Six Flags ever did was Magic Mountain. (that's not saying much)

Six Flags in in the market solely for Money and it shows from the piles of trash in the parks to the overcharged parking and food, to the Multiple pay per play attractions, to the buy all the parks you can and add the same ride over and over attitudes.

:laugh :laugh I just about fell out of my chair laughing .... mostly at 'at Disney World this and at Disney world that.' because I do that .. if I am forced to go to any other theme park !!!

but only 55 degrees?? dang would you like a little texas weather .. we are melting down here.
my niece was here spending the night with my granddaughters .. she mentioned going to 6 flags this week .. needless to say ..the girls werent even impressed. wow wouldnt it be so much better if schools took kids to WDW at the end of the year :) Lisa's class went to 6 flags but she didnt go (since a drowning during a class trip 2 years ago the girls do not go on class trips unless thier mom or dad can go) and didnt even care about missing it, in fact she said she felt sorry for all those crazy kids that were excited about going.

WDWFan, I know what you mean. The park is not clean, not kept up well and the rides are mostly the same.

I so expect the theme thing to be there. Disney has done so well developing rides that are of intrest to a wide range of ages. If a student of mine does not ride roller coasters he/she stands around most of the day waiting for friends to ride. There are so few rides offered to those who do not ride thrill rides.

I would have loved to have had your heat today. I was just flat out cold today. It started raining during the 2 1/2 hour bus ride (school bus none the less) and is still raining. We found shelter in a theater that was not open for shows and just sat on the floor in the lobby for about 4 hours to stay dry. We only went out for food and the bathroom!!!

The kids all seemed to have fun but were very ready to leave to go home. Every year we take our 8th graders and we have never had a day this cold and wet.

I agree. We live pretty close to a 6 Flags park and I wouldn't even think of going.

I'm going to say something that I am sure will offend someone so I'll apologize upfront.

It's not just the parks. It is the kinds of people that go to these parks. I haven't gone in a few years but when I did I swear I never saw so many trashy people in one spot in my life.:(

It's like the chicken and the egg...what came first, the trashy parks or the trashy people.:hmmm

We went to Kings Island in Cin. Ohio last year. My DW had gotten free tickets from her work. I'm so glad it was free! The place was a pit. Nothing looked clean, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat there. We stayed about 2 hours most of that time (1 hour 15min) spent in line for Tomb Raider the Ride which is just a hugh version of the Zipper from any county fair done indoors. We then road the Beast walk around the rest of the park and went home.

I could not believe how bad it was...we use to go to KI every year as kids. Maybe I just didn't care about quality, but my guess is it has just gone down hill.

Thank God for Disney!

Well, I do like Paramount Parks a bit better than a Six Flags. However, I have only been to Carowinds and King's Dominion.

My park company order goes like this from Worst to best overall experience:

Six Flags
Cedar Fair
Paramount
Silver Dollar City (including Dollywood)
Busch (including SeaWorlds)
Universal
Disney

ME TOO! I went to Carowinds (owned by Paramount) in Charlotte, NC this weekend and it just made me long for WDW that much more. We were invited to go by another couple and by DH had to tell me to stop comparing everything to Disney so I wanted offend them. I just couldn't help it, but when we got home DH said Disney made that place look pathetic. None the less, DD had a good time.

DisneyTeacher you may want to come teach in our great state :)
I promise you won't be cold in May or June :D :D :D

the last theme park I went to other then disney was a Paramount, up in northern California with friends from online... blah ..it was nothing and dirty .. I think I only rode 3 rides. the time before that was also with friends from online and it was a Bush Gardens park in Williamsburg VA. .. another blah and but I remember how badly it seemed in need of cleaning and rehab all over. .. went to Knotts Berry and Universal in California back in the early 90's also with friends from online.... I wasnt the least bit impressed with either of those. even when I tried to keep quiet and not compare them to Disney my friends knew and would even say it for me " I know ..its not Disney" :laugh and even though we are near the original Six flags .. Six Flags over Texas in dallas I havent been there since 1985. Its kinda funny because I remember reading a long time ago that the man that built Six Flags over Texas did it to compete with DL and make a more affordable theme park, and that he himself could be seen picking up trash in the park ..well its nothing like he might have had in mind now.

I would have taken you up on that in a heartbeat yesterday!!

My 7th hour class this year begged me to take them to WDW. Most of my students have never been to WDW and listen to me talk about it and now want to go. I would love to be able to share WDW with them and watch a bunch of 8th graders fall in love with the happiest place on Earth. Many of my students have never left the state and some have never been more than 50 miles from home in their life, so sad!

I disagree with you on this... Busch is a beautiful park and has won awards for it like ten years in a row. This park tends to have very high standard on things and has a lot better theme than most other parks. Outside of Disney, this is one of my favorites. They have some of the best food and shows as well. It could have been an off day I suppose.
:nooo:

Carowinds... ever see all the copy cat ideas of the Magic Kingdom at that park, especially in the past with it's mini Main Street, the old train around the park, the Liberty Bell like Boat, the Monorail, the Skyway, the Frontierland type theme, the Tom Sawyer type island, even a Pirates ride. Carowinds use to be a Disney wannabe, they are not that way today though.
