Just curious...

I was just watching the Disney Travel Channel On Demand (Disney FIX!!) , a show about the Utilidors that weave and wander at the base level of Magic Kingdom. I got to wondering...

would you be interested in seeing the Utilidors? I mean, do you think it would take anything away from the the "Disney Magic" or to the contrary, do you think that it would add to it?

Just a thought...

IMO, I don't want to mess with the illusion. I like the "magical" aspect of Disney, and have no interest in the "behind" the scenes part of that.

Re: Just curious...

Someone I work with did the tour and she said that it kind of ruined the whole fantasy, magic aspect of Disney for her. Watching cast members not in character was strange. I wouldn't do the tour at this point. I love the magical fantasy of the whole package.

Re: Just curious...

I guess, I should give my opinion... my thread, duh!

I have to agree with those that have poste thusfar. Although I think some aspects of the Utilidors are fasinating (where do they "come up" at? there are shops and stores down there; wonder what the prices are like? do you think it's disney stuff? CMs even have access to a hair salon "down there"! and the walls are color coded so that CMs know where they are!), but even with all that curiousity... I think I like the magic "upstairs" too much to risk taking off the rose colored glasses.

All that being said... my goal is to retire to Disney and become a CM in my golden years, so I will be walking those utilidors someday.... but that's 30 years from now!

I would love to see them. It wouldn't change the magic for me at all.

I imagine being a CM really takes away from the Magic. Not to say years from now that I wouldn't want to.. Rlander & I both would like to work there some day. Making Magic for others, the way we enjoy it today!

Re: Just curious...

I don't know if I really want to go behind the magic. I went backstage to prepare for the parade when I went to Disney with the band, and it felt like I... wasn't at Disney. Nothing really special.

But, my dad has signed us up for the Keys to the Kingdom tour, and I've wanted to do this for a very long time, so I guess I'll take my chances. I like knowing how things work, and being able to tell people facts and numbers (Cinderella's Castle is 180 feet tall... Tower of Terror 199, etc, etc.). I just hope I don't see Mickey without his head on.

I have a cousin who worked at the Brown Derby several years ago. She had a friend who worked in the Magic Kingdom, and even though she wasn't supposed too, she ended up somehow (I really don't remember the whole story) in the underground part of MK. She said it really made her sad to see that part of MK, and she just tries not think about that. She said it really took away some of the magic. My dad and my brother think seeing the ins and outs of how everything "works" would be fun, but I just want to enjoy the magic and so does the rest of my family. I get enough reality at home!!

Re: Just curious...

I definitely wouldn't want to see that side until I am old old old. Then I could handle seeing some of the tricks of the trade. But for now I am so happy just to walk through those magical gates and enjoy everything about the place!

Re: Just curious...

I was worried when I did my CP that it would ruin some of the magic, but it really only made everything more magical for me. They took us to the Utilidors during Traditions but they warned us when we were getting close to the character areas in case we did not want to see the characters in their not completely magical state.

I worked at the Studios so most of my time spent backstage was there. Despite it being just backstage, there was still some magic back there too. I usually got to see Pluto, Minnie, Goofy and Chip and Dale on their way back from the Hollywood and Vine on my way to the shop where I worked. They were known to jump off their little golf cart and dance around with the cast members backstage - it was pretty neat and a great way to start your shift! I also once saw Mickey and Minnie skipping and holding hands backstage as they ended their cheese break and headed out to meet some more guests. That was super cute!

Went on Keys to the Kingdom tour in May. We got to go backstage in several areas including the Utilitdors. Didn't spoil the magic at all!!! Just makes me more curious and makes everything more magical. As much as I got to see, the more I wanted to see. If you believe in the magic of WDW, that includes seeing how some of that magic is created (at least that has been my experience).
