Your Favorite Disney Song
Hi everyone,
I was just listening to Mouse Info Radio and was thinking..... What is your favorite Disney song and why? Mine would have to be "A Whole New World". When our DD was born she had to spend some time in NICU and we had to go home without her and it was awful. When we finally got to take her home my DH put on this song and it has been a whole new world with our kids. To this day everytime I hear this song I cry because dreams really do come true. I love the song Gaston sings in Beauty and the Beast!! My other most favorite Disney Song is "Be our Guest" from Beauty & the Beast. If you have ever seen the play, it is just amazing!!!
The company that toured our area a few years ago was unbelievable and got a standing ovation when they were done with that song :)

Mine is A Whole New World too! A very special couple sang that song for me and DH at our wedding! Now I get all teared up when my DH sings it with my DD! Soo sweet! I also love Kiss the Girl from the Little Mermaid. That scene in the lagoon is so much fun!

My absolute favorite Disney song is "Two Worlds, One Family" from Tarzan. In fact, I'd almost say that Tarzan was my absolute favorite Disney movie--mostly because of the underlying theme. My wife and I are foster parents to two little boys (brothers). A 2-1/2 year old, and a 1 year old. The "Tarzan" theme practically fits perfectly in our house. We are hoping (and praying daily) that we'll get to adopt them, which completes the "two worlds, one family" theme. However, on a much grander scale, these guys are ACTIVE! :laugh It's practically a jungle in our house most of the time!:D
Now we just need to get them aged a couple of years so that they'll fully enjoy WDW.:) After all, my wife will have her hands full enough with just ME there, let alone two other kids. Just ask my mom (cksgranny).

Speaking of Zip a dee doo dah...
Speaking of Zip a dee doo dah, wasn't that the song from "Song of the South"? I wonder why Disney's never released it here on VHS or DVD. We hear the songs from it a lot, but never see the movie. I've seen it for sale on eBay in some weird format that was released in the UK, but why not here in the US? Isn't that the movie that had Briar Rabbit in it?
I just barely remember seeing it in the theaters when I was a kid. I saw it with another movie I have yet to see again as well, but I can't remember it's name. Another Disney live-action movie. Something about a guy who wrote a comic book about a superhero whose theme was something like the Golden Eagle or the Golden Hawk or something like that. Anyway, by some weird twist of events, this author decided to try to live like his character, so made himself the same costume and tried to take out some bad guys. The only real sequence that I can remember all of is when he was with his girlfriend up in the mountains in what looked like an old, beat-up truck. Well, the bad guys came in in sports cars, and surrounded him, trying to take the truck out. He pushed a button, and both he and the girl lowered down into a gold car that, now that I think about it, kinda looked like a Lamborghini. Anyway, it came shooting out of the "skirt" from under the truck (which turned out to be a shell, kinda like a mask to hide the real car). He pushed another button, and this ramp covered the front end of the car, all the way to the roof. Whenever the bad guys' cars came at him, he just drove straight at them, forcing them to drive up over the ramp, and fly through the air. Man, I wish I could see that movie again. Like I said, I was a LITTLE kid when I saw it. Don't remember the name of it or anything. I just remember that it came on after "Song of the South." Which is kinda amazing, because I don't remember anything about "Song of the South" other than it was a live-action/cartoon mix. The man singing the song was real, but the blue bird of happiness was a cartoon. I remember thinking that was WAY COOL--of course, that was YEARS before Roger Rabbit came along. :D Sorry for the diversion from the subject of the thread. I'll now let you go back to your regularly scheduled programming.;)

Having grown up on Disney Music, I'll follow this up with a little story: My favorite Disney songs depend on the era. From the 40's, "Give A Litte Whistle" from Pinocchio takes first spot, followed by "Little April Shower" from Bambi, "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, and "You Belong to My Heart" from The Three Caballeros. From the 50's it's "The Mickey Mouse Club March" from the TV show, and from the movies, "Once Upon a Dream" from Sleeping Beauty. And "Davy Crockett", of course. From the 60's, it's "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins and "Bare Necessities" from Jungle Book. From the 70's - "Someone's Waiting for You" from the Rescuers , "Candle on the Water" and "It's not Easy" from Pete's Dragon. Though I have more '70's faves, such as "Love" and "Oo-De-Lali" from Robin Hood, and "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat". "Age of Not Believing" from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. From the '80s - "Part of Your World" and "Under Da Sea" from Little Mermaid. From the '90's - "A Whole New World" , "Friend Like Me" and " One Jump Ahead" from Aladdin "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", "Circle of Life", "Hakuna Matata" and "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" from The Lion King. "Won't Say I'm In Love" and "Go the Distance" from Hercules. "Reflection" and "Let's Get Down To Business" from Mulan. "You've Got a Friend In Me" from Toy Story. "You'll Be In My Heart" and "Son of Man" from Tarzan. and from Disney on Broadway, "Not Me", "I Know the Truth", "The God Love Nubia" from Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida. Whew. How's that for a list?

OK - now the story...
My very first record album that I ever bought on my own was a Disney album. I was about 8. I had gone to see Pinocchio in the movies and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I loved the songs and wanted to learn them, to have them, to own them. I went to the local Woolworths with my older sister and spotted the album. It cost something like 7 bucks or something then. I asked her to buy it for me, but she said she'd get it for my birthday, probably thinking I'd forget about it by then. I decided to try to save up for it instead. When I got home, I saw a commercial for Pinocchio and I knew I really wanted that album. Like the title character, I was raised by my father, who was a little older than most dads, with my mom having passed on when I was a baby. In retrospect, I must have identified with the character so much that even the character of the Blue Fairy was like the spiritual embodiment of a "mother" figure. So, when you're a kid, you latch onto things that you identify with. Anyway, I remember seeing a twinkling light in the sky that night, and I wished I may and wished I might be able to get that album somehow. I ended up dreaming about it. Sufficed to say, the very next day, a relative came to visit and gave me a card with 10 dollars in it -- just enough to go back to Woolworth's and get it! I begged my dad to take me there and he did, and I owned my very first soundtrack and bought my very first album. Though most of it was only the music track accompaniment to the movie, I would listen to it over and over, imagining the scenes and the movie in my head as it went along with the music. Perhaps this is where my fondness for Disney music began. I kept my interest in Disney stuff through my teens, while others were into hard rock, heavy metal and rap, and I eventually ended up liking diverse types of music. But I'm finding lately that the things you love most as an adult are sometimes the things that touched you most deeply when you were a kid.
