Yes, you really struck a chord with this comment. You are so right some people just don't "get it." We get this ALL the time as well...and comments about how do you afford to go once a year or every other year. I think they assume we're spending a fortune. But, not so... Of course, WDW can cost a ton, but it can also be done on a budget (as everyone on here knows). I think some of those people who make those comments would really be surprised at some of the good deals we get.

I was watching an interview this morning about the "financial times" we are in. They said that this is like the 1920's-to the Depression Era, when it was about materialistic things, after the Depression Era, 1940's-50's people were more concerned about family and neighbors. They said we may see a change again as people become concerned about family and others again. I am hoping we see this spill over to Disney Parks. Excellent service we've come to expect and courtesy from CM's and guests. With the wages the CM's earn,I don't know if I could always smile and give excellent service with the way some guests act.I know us MB's are the exception though!

I use to try to justify how we "could afford it" telling them how I put all my change, work expense checks and $50 a paycheck in my Disney account, and that they would be able to do it also. It's like looking at a deer in headlights. Once I'm done with my explanation, all excited for more questions, they just sluf it off, repeating that they can't afford it, and usually make another snide comment. I've come to the conclusion that they truly don't want to have fun or spend time with their family. I guess I'm being too judgemental, but I just don't understand such a negative attitude.

Im the same way. Im so sick and tired of people asking me why is Disney so special and why do you go all the time.
To be honest its what my kids and I love to do. People always ask me if I have 2 jobs to afford it. The answer is NO I dont!!
I feel that I work very hard to be able to go to WDWand now my DVC. I do have to give up the things that I once like to do. for example I dont go out the the coach store anymore and but $100 headbands or $150 coach sneakers. I would and will always give up the small stuff for Disney any day of the week.

Re: Have your expectations changed...

When someone asks 'why are you going there again' I enjoy asking them where they have gone for a vacation over the past 5 years. Amazing how many repeat the same place. They get it at that point. They have their fave's, we have ours. Give me a smile, a clean room, good food, relaxing pool and all that is left is to get lost in the parks. We find new fun favorite spots with each trip. 11 days to another new discovery.

When I agree to do a job for a company, I also agree to the money they pay me and I agree to do what the job entails. And for Disney, I can bet my bottom dollar it entails "alsways have a smile on your face, because that's what we do here at Disney" or something like that.
That goes for any other job in the service fields all over not just at Disney

Re: Have your expectations changed...

I'm relatively new to the MB scene. (WOW...some of you are in the 1,000++ postings??? Whew!) My limited experiences here have helped me come to a few simple ah-ha moments...

1) Hmmmm. I'm not insane or off my rocker. (as some other "outsiders" may say") There are others like me who get all sentimental over Mickey and his gang. Being giddy about trips to the magic is what it's all about.

2) Lots of new pals out there in cyberspace willing to share all the hidden, lesser known details about the place I love.

3) Wow, those CM are actually real people! (And by the caring, thoughtful comments I've read, were hired for all the right reasons!)

Re: Have your expectations changed...

We hear the same thing all the time. How can you afford or want to go every year. We are certainly not rich by any means and we do go other places as well with our kids. We do without other things to go to Disney or our annual ski vacation. No more Starbucks, less eating out!! We usually stay in value or moderate resorts,to us the extra days we can stay are more important than going deluxe. Wedon't always get park hopper if we know what parks we want to be in and don't have a first timer with us But we love Disney, or I love Disney and DH loves me!!

Re: Have your expectations changed...

Fortunatly all of my family members, wife, 3 daugthers and their spouses, like going to WDW. My DW and I have gone at least twice a year for several years now and have never grown tired of WDW. But with the economy the way it is, the future is looking different. I love going and always have a good time, but with the increases in all aspects of the trip I don't know what the future holds. Changes and increases in costs are inevitable and understandable, so everyone has to make their own decission on what to do in the future. Hopefully, we all can continue, as in the past, to go to WDW and enjoy and relive all the memories we've enjoyed over the years.

Another thing... being at MB has opened my eyes to the many ways other people find magic at WDW. That has enhanced my own appreciation of things I might have overlooked. It's the little things, not expensive things or freebies, but the simple joys.

Re: Have your expectations changed...

Our frequency has not changed since we joined. We have refined our reservations over the years by trial and error, and we have less disappointments with attractions that are closed for refurbishing. Also some of the non-park help has been great. Mostly for us, it has been the great bunch of people that we have met on the board.

I agree that they know what the job entails and what the pay is but, in my opinion, the "smile" would come easier if they got a living wage.I was responding to the question asked in the thread about expectations changing.I have learned alot from MB, and some of that is that the CM's don't always get the best deal from our money being spent. For me, my expectations did change based upon that. I don't expect Grand Floridian service at POP either. But you are correct when you say it goes for all service fields.

Re: Have your expectations changed...

This thread isn't exactly a zombie thread, so, I'm going to post a reply even though it's been 2 weeks since anyone else did.

DC/MB has definately enhanced what we've been able to get out of our trips. DW and I hadn't taken the DK's on a vacation for 7 years prior to 2003. That trip was truly magical. (http://www.mousebuzz.com/forum/mouse...emories-3.html)

So, when we decided to go back, I became more of a planner and I found this site!

And then I learned about all the ways to save... and the stuff we missed... and we can't seem to stay away. I'm not entirely sure if it's because of the site... but it's certainly a contributor!

The other thing is that no matter how busy my life gets... I just can't stay away from this place... even though I do tend to disappear for long periods of time.
