We're going to try another surprise trip

We surprised our son with a birthday trip a birthday trip a few years ago but the big reveal didn't go as I had planned. We still laugh about it because we thought he would jump up and down with excitement but he didn't.

So.....we're going to try it again. He has said he wants to be surprised again so I guess we'll try it again, maybe this time we'll get the jumping up and down reaction.

I still have to book everything but we're planning a long weekend in late July.

Its hard to pull off surprises. However, I surprised my 13 yr old last year with a Disney Cruise, and he didn't have a single clue....the look on his face was Priceless when he realized we were actually going on the cruise.

I hope so! It was funny last time, just not want I expected.

I think we'll tell him before we leave the house not when we get to the airport, he might be more excited that way.

Hmm.... since he's asking for surprises, he might be expecting it.

Are you leaving on his birthday or a few days before? If it's on his birthday, no problem... if not, just tell him you'd like to give him an early birthday present. You could wrap up a huge box.... they always build the best anticipation.... and put the plane tickets inside. Or you could have a box inside a box inside a box, etc. Maybe inside each box, there's a hint. You could be cute and rhyme-y. Oohh.... you could send him on a scavenger hunt around the house or neighborhood, giving him clues to his final destination! In the hunt, you could even send him to the car, to the airport, then.... Walt Disney World!!!

Oh, boy, I love surprises! Tell us how it goes!

We're going to Hilton Head Island on his birthday in May so that's well before our trip.

He won't expect it, he hasn't talked about it for a long time, months or longer. We have to talk about that trip got him to say he wants to be surprised again, it's not something that just comes up.

I've thought about the hunt through the house, he would LOVE that. We may try telling him that way.

Those surprises always make the best memories! You may not have gotten the reaction that you wanted the first time but I'm sure he'll remember it fondly as he gets older. Boys are kinda like that. How old is he?

He was turning 8 the last time we surprised him. It was funny, he really wanted to go to WDW but we told him it wasn't going to happen that summer. Well, we went to the airport and jumped out of the car and told him we were going to WDW for his birthday. He just looked at me and said, "You know I hate to fly!" He finally got excited but I just expected him to be really excited. He's older now (he'll be 11 this spring) and I think he'll be happy about it. He wasn't upset last time, just not excited right away.

Kids gotta love them! Our son was 9 when he first went. He was super excited. Now he's 22 and not so much anymore. They grow so fast. 11 is a great age for WDW. I hope you all have a great time.

Smee did that for Yuri last year, I think at Christmas. He sure was surprised and Sally had a fun time doing it. Fun pictures too.
