Your Best Disney Memory........

As I prepare for our upcoming trip, it makes me think back of past trips we've taken and the memories we have from them. The one that always springs to mind is our first WDW family trip in 1995. Our children at the time were 13, 9 and 3. We had been talking and planning the trip for over a year. Our youngest child, Shannon, would always ask, when are we going to see Mickey? The day finally came, we packed up the van and hit the road for Orlando. It took us two days of travel. 12 hours the first day and 6 the next. She would still ask, "When will we see Mickey?" We kept saying "Soon Shan, real soon." I guess she thought she would never get to see him. A three year old has no concept of time. On the second day as we drove onto Disney property, my husband and I both noticed that the signs had Mickey ears, we knew we had arrived. We both looked at each other but didn't say anything waiting for shrieks from the back of the van. A minute or so had past and still silence. All of a sudden, Shannon jumped up behind my husbands seat, threw her arms around his neck and exclaimed, "Daddy you find it!" The look on his face was priceless, he turned into a big puddle of goo. In that moment, she was his hero. It' a memory we'll never forget. Shannon is 16 now and I still tear up everytime I tell the story. So what are your best memories of Disney? Please share.

I can't remember any one particular thing other than that my boys were never excited about Disney no matter how hard I tried. Outdoors-ey people

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

I grew up going to WDW 3 times or so a year. When my parents moved us up to Maine, the visits stopped, it was just to far to travel. So now that I am an adult and married, my husband and I have been twice in a couple of years. My best memory would have to be taking my husband, who had not been to Disney since he was 7 years old, to all the places that meant so much to me as a child. Epcot was always my families' favorite park, so my husband and I went on Spaceship Earth as our first ride, and ate at then then Alfredo's for our first meal. It was so special to share all my memories with him and then we got to make great memories of our own. I will never forget seeing Spaceship Earth as soon as we walked in and how special it was to be there with my husband.

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

I have a few-
The great reveal..... when we surprised the kids with our trip in May and they would not get off the bus. And then when Nicky finally saw the suitcases in the camper.... and came out sobbing. That was an amazing moment. Funny thing is that I watched it the other day and he was about 6 inches shorter than me. Now he is at least 1 maybe 2 taller than I am now.
Another one is the day that Ed and I were picked to be the grand marshalls in the parade. It was just the most amazing thing to me and I was kissing him the whole time we waited for it because I knew the ONLY reason they picked us was because he was 6ft 7 wearing matching shirts and a Mickey Ear tophat- it was so magical
My last one is waking up on my 30th birthday at Castaway Cay and going out on the deck to watch the sunrise and the fog roll away from the beach. I had been dreading turning 30 at that point and it was the most peacefull and beautiful way to get older.

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

The one that never leaves my memory is our first stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The boys were 10 and 8. The bellhop walked us into the room and the boys ran straight for the balcony, all excited about the animals outside our window. The CM excused himself and got on the phone. When he hung up, he told us not to unpack, that we were moving. When we told him there was nothing wrong with the room, he said, "Oh no, after seeing those boys reaction to the animals, we have to get them a closer view." He moved us to a room that the feeding tree seemed like 10 feet from our balcony. We had giraffes right there, feeling as if we could almost touch them. That room had bunk beds, so every morning, DH and myself would watch them quietly get out of bed, grab cereal and milk, tip toe out to the balcony and whispering a conversation, as if to show respect to the animals by not making any noise.

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

I have so many unforgettable Disney memories, but my favorite is this: My brother, who is five years younger than me, was probably about 7 at the time. I think I was about 12 or 13. Anyways, he did NOT want to go on Splash Mountain, which was a family favorite. We finally just made him go and he LOVED it! It was all he talked about for DAYS. Later in the week, after a second ride, we were in the pool at POR and I heard him singing. I swam alittle closer to hear ".....pretty good, show us your bum..." I asked him what he was singing and he repeated it louder so people around us could hear. "...PRETTY GOOD SHOW US YOUR BUM..." My mom who was mortified ran over from her lounge chair. Turns out he thought the words '...Pretty good, sure as you're born...' were "pretty good show us your bum!" He claims he thought this because it is playing when Brer Bear is caught in the trap and his bum is hanging out!!

Poor kid is 19 now and STILL gets "pretty good show us your Bum" sang to him at every single holiday gathering and pretty much any other time Disney is mentioned. He also gets phone calls anytime anyone in our family is in line for or on the ride!

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

As a child we could not afford to go. Nor when I was a younger father. When My mom passed away I used the money from the sale of the house to buy tickets for the children and I put it under the Christmas tree "From Mum-mums".

The first day there - the three of them stood on Main street and looked around w/jaws dropped open. That was the moment I'll never forget.

Today would be mom's birthday. How about THAT?

Re: Your Best Disney Memory........

I have lots of wonderful Disney memories but my favorite was DS's 1st trip to Disney when he was 10 months old. The look on his face on the Dumbo ride was priceless. I will also never forget when he fell into one of the fountains at POFQ during our last trip.

She bent down to his level, stroked his hand, told him how handsome he was, and put a big kiss right on his forehead!

As you can see, he really enjoyed the attention!
