Harry Potter Fans??

Ok guys admit it- Who out there has been caught reading those Harry Potter books after their children have swallowed them whole?? lol. Come on, I know you're out there!:bandit :whistle:lol.
I started reading the series when it first came out when I was 12, and I pretty much have grown up with Harry (he was 12 like me in the first book, and he's now 15...even thugh im 16, lol). I just finished the 5th book yesterday, and I loved it!! J.K. Rowling has really held up to my expectations. Any other potter fans out there? My family has certainly grown into a Harry Potter loving Family. We saw the 2 movies, and I hope they are going to make the rest! We talked about HP in our last DC chat, and it seemed like there were some readers in there!
Joe:)

I've read the first 4 books several times, but I haven't had a chance to read the 5th yet... my sister bought it and won't let me touch it until she finishes :devil

I used to be a big Harry Potter geek.. and even though I still love the books I'm not as big a fan as I used to be. I haven't even see the second movie yet.

HUGE fan here. My son looks like a blond version of the actor, too, complete with the smile and glasses, especially when his hair grows too long. We just picked the book up yesterday and he's hid it on me... :(

Hi Joe,

My boys are huge Harry Potter fans, but only through the hype and the movies.
My 8 year old, Brendan, just had a Harry Potter b-day party in May, all the kids dressed in Hogwarts style...it was fun!
We had the hats and glasses and lightning bolt tattoos for their foreheads, lol:p

Guilty! In fact, I'm afraid to admit that we actually bought a second copy to keep my daughter (age 11) and wife (age much more than 11) from fighting over it. It was worth it for the peace!

I'm about half way done with the 5th book (no spoilers please). I started reading them when my daughter expressed an interest... I have to admit, I wasn't wowed by the first 2...but the 3rd and 4th I thought were excellent.

I credit Harry (and Rowling) a great deal; my daughter is about half way through Lord of the Rings... which I didn't finish until I was 15. No way she would be reading like this without the Potter books.

I am about a third of the way through the latest book. I have enjoyed each of the books and have read them several times each. I can't wait to see how this lastest one ends. I am reading it slowly to enjoy more. Even my DH who NEVER reads books has read all of the Potter books and enjoyed them.

I think these books have done more to get kids intrested in reading than any other book. I watch my students who never read read all of these books and then discover that reading can be enjoyable.

DD(goofygirl) and I have a special HP bond. She learned to read with the first book. She could read the words, but, at that time, not really understand what she was reading. So, after she'd finish each chapter, I'd read it back aloud to her and answer all her questions. Ever since then, it's been a "thing" between us. I don't read them back aloud to her any more, but it did start 2 traditions. Even at age 11, we always have a book that I read to her, even though we're both usually reading our own books simultaneously. And, we always discuss the latest HP book as soon as we've both read it. She just finished the latest one, so when I finish my current book(Einstein's Universe), that'll be my next one. Boy, do I hate that Malfoy family:!: :!: :!:

I'm another big Harry Potter fan. The last book was released the day after we returned from WDW and DH was kind enough to get up early and go buy one for me.

Tinkerbell, I bet you and your DGD will LOVE the British version. I have the British versions of books 1-4. I work for an oil company and until last Oct, worked in a worldwide drilling & production group. The engineers I worked made frequent trips to the UK. Whenever a new HP book came out, the guys would make sure I got a copy of the British version. But no more. The group disbanded with a merger and the guys all moved on (company headquarters moved to another city).

The British versions aren't a lot different, but some and it's interesting to read and watch for differences in expressions.

I'm also a huge Harry Potter fan. While I stood in line at Wal-Mart, I was calling and giving Mom updates on where I was, when the books were coming, etc.--they were on their way back from the airport.

Tink--I'm sure you've noticed by now, but... I don't think the "American" version of OOTP is truly an "American" version. It's got LOADS of UK-English in it, to the point that I was asking friends in Aberdeen what was going on.

Some things you might want to know:

"Wotcher" is their way of saying "Hey you!"
A car aerial is a car antenna
Trainers are tennis shoes/sneakers/whatever you want to call 'em
And, yes, even though we use "are" for plural and "is" for singular, they don't. To them "the Ministry are" is correct English!

It's an outstanding book, for those of you starting or having a hard time getting through it. Everyone I know is truly frustrated by the time they get about 3/4 of the way through it. But, it does have an outstanding ending!

My 12 year old son and I are HUGE Potter fans. DS shares the same birthday as Harry Potter. (july 31st). Dillon has read the first 4 books 9 times each. For the last two books we were in line at Mr. Paperback at midnight so we could buy them hot off the presses. I am about halfway thru Order of the Phoenix. Dillon finished it in 4 days. He had to see both movies as soon as they were released, and now we own them of course. He knows everything there is to know about HP. Undoubtedly I am glad to see him reading , but I do try to get him to read other books of the same genre. Of course nothing can measure up to Harry Potter. :dazed

I have read the first four books, and plan on reading hte 5th as soon as I buy it lol :D I tend to be cheap at times, trying to borrow it from friends before breaking down and buying it myself.

I have finishe dteh 5th book which I loved my husband isstarting it now and my DS who has learning disabilities has managed to strugglke through three books and working on the 4th. We have bought teh books on CD to work with him. Now at school they call him Mr Potter so lets leave it at that!

Whne I started reading teh series i was taking New jersey transit down to wall street and other adults would stop me and say isnt that book great or ask questions....
