What do the guys carry?

In typical Mom fashion, I always seem to be the one lugging the backpack, holding the shopping bag, or having a lap full of stuff in the car.

I was having a Disney discussion with DH, without him rolling his eyes at me - can you believe it?- and he wondered if any guys wore waist packs (i.e. fanny pacs, we can't call them that after living overseas, ask if you really want to know) in the parks.

I will carry my backpack as I am used to it, I have used it for a diaper bag for 8 years. But he is concerned about pickpockets etc. Do you men out there carry your wallet in your pocket at WDW? Do you remove all but ID and cash if you do? Do you use a waist pack?

Thanks!

I carry travelers check(s), one or two charge cards, Disney Club card ofcourse, a small amount of cash (in case I want something small before cashing a travelers check), room key (which is also our Length of Stay pass, and my license in my front pockets. I also carry a refillable water bottle, with a Disney strap, around my neck. Your DH may not want to hear this but my significant other and I share the lugging around of the backpack. If niether of us wants to carry it we get a locker but the backpack usually only contains suntan lotion, lunch & snacks (pretzels peanutbutter bagels..etc) and some suckers. She also carrys a small fanny pack for her womanly things.

Well I usually carry the backpack. This year I am going to try and downsize to a waist pack. It is a hikcers pack that had plenty of room. This will be the first time that we don't need diapers or pull ups with us so it will be easy to down size. There is a thread here about carrying stuff and someone attached a link to a hicking/mountineering co-op in Canada where I got the pack from.:)

The thread is titles "Carrying things" do a search and go to it.

We carry a small backpack and like you I usually end up carrying it! I can't complian thought because DH usually gets suckered in to holding DD in line when she is restless & tired. My DH doesn't carry a wallet at all. All we do is wear lanyards around our neck. They have a clear pocket attached. We put our room key and park passes along with $10 or $20 and that's all we need for the day. We charge all of our meals to the room key so cash isn't a big issue for us. We've never had trouble keeping our cards and money secure in them and it's very convenient having it right around your neck... especially when you want to grab the passes quickly for fast pass. We also put the fast passes we collect in there to! Anything to lighten the load and make things easier! The wallet stays in our safe in the room.

I have to ask, what's the story behind the "fanny pack"?

My DH carries nothing but his wallet. You will never catch him with a "fanny pac". He considers them a "purse" and an insult on his masculinity.

I carry a fanny pack usually, not my wallet. I take the important stuff out of my wallet (ID, $$, etc.) and leave my wallet in the safe.

We also have a backpack and stroller which my wife and I take turns pushing and carrying.

One HOT day we were in EPCOT and I was enjoying one of the iced margaritas in Mexico just before heading back to the room. Well like I said it was REALLY HOT and them drinks is tasty so I drank it pretty fast. I'm not much of a drinker so it hit me pretty fast. Oh and I was carrying our backpack which pretty much had everything in it. (Tickets, $$, Camcorder)

So we stopped at the gift shop at the Contemporary for whatever reason, I sure don't remember, I was just pretty much giggling at the 5-legged goat by then.

Well we got back to the room and after a while realized our backpack was missing!! My wife ran off to the gift shop and thankfully someone had turned it in completely intact. Only at Disney. :)

Yeah I left it there. Personally I blame the goat.

So I'm not sure how much I will be trusted to carry this time. At least not on EPCOT days.

I'm sorry, what was the question? Oh man I think I just Dory'ed this post.

Even thought DH would never be caught dead wearing a fanny pack to the mall or anywhere else...he will wear one in WDW. ID cards, credit cards, small amount of cash, and his sunglass case go right in it. My fanny pack also has the sunscreen and chapstick. Everyone wears one in WDW, so there isnt as much of a "stigma" attached to the fanny pack there! LOL Men are so funny. :D

I usually carry around our digital camera, and that is about it. It has a case that will hold all of our passes and room keys, and that is about all I take. If I bring my wallet for some reason, I usually carry it in my front pocket. Years of living in Europe has taught me to do so on vacation. I could live if it was stolen at home, but on vacation, it would be a major pain.

Minnie has a very small purse she takes with her cell phone and a couple of other things, sun tan lotion, chap stick, credit card, room key, etc. When our kids were younger, we had a back pack type thing that we hung on the back of the stroller, and just took out the valuables when we left the stroller.

He he, you said fanny. We were talking about the English use of "Fanny" last night at dinner. Just your mention of it made me laugh again!

I will try and put this in a PG-13 manner. We lived in Australia for a number of years. Down under, fanny does not refer to your rear end but to another nearby part of a women's anatomy.

At work one day, out loud and in public, I told a group of intellectually disabled adults to "get their fanny packs ready to go" as it was almost quitting time. My training officer pulled me aside and explained the difference in vocabulary and I almost died.

For some reason, I still can't use the term fanny without blushing, lol.

My DH carries a backpack with the camcorder and camera in it.
He doesn't mind (actually I think he enjoys it) He always carries his wallet in his front pocket. We have a little one, so we also pack a diaper bag that sits in the stroller. DH carries my ID in his wallet and our passes, and money. I put my wallet in the safe in the room.

I do like the lanyard idea!! Where did you all get those?

The ones we use were free from AMEX at check in but now that Visa is the official card of WDW I'm sure they aren't available. I did see them at a couple of pin trading stands and the What Would Walt Do lanyards have them too. Here is a link.
