Came back an hour later, another new CM, and she was in like Flynn.
I hate that.... So many CMs measure differently, and I know it has to be frustrating for families with young children!

I was probably one of the mean CMs because if a kid wasn't tall enough, I didn't let them on...period. We were told that our job was on the line in those cases, and it was a big safety issue. If a kid didn't reach the line when I measured the top of their head using my Disneyland ID as a guideline, I was firm in my decision that they couldn't ride.

Now I know that if I went back with my kid and one CM let her ride it and the next one didn't, I'd be TICKED! Oh well...I guess that's the way things work...

I wasn't too worried about it, but I know what you mean. How did you use your badge to measure? (Big badge!)

So you never tried the ol' Jimmy Choos trick? The Manolo Blahnick trick? How about the Christian Laboutin trick? I'm telling you -- a good pair of 5" heels will fool those CMs every time! ;-)

We were told to have the child stand with their back against the measuring...thing...(sign? I don't know what you'd call it ) and then place our ID (just the size of a credit card) flat against the top of their head. If our ID was touching the line, they could ride, but if the card was even the tiniest bit under the line, we had to say no.

I'm pretty sure most people didn't do that though. I was a goody-two-shoes CM. (I adhered to the the Disney Look like it was the law, used corny themed spiels whenever I spoke to guests, always stood with my hands clasped in front of me or behind me...) and I took A LOT of flack for it!

I get it. I think this measuring sign had an arm that stuck out in a similar way, if you didn't touch the top you were too short. I tried to teach my DD to stand on her toes a wee bit, but...kids these days, ya know?!? Can't teach 'em anything!

Yeah, DD2 has a strict affliction for Crocs or other shoes that are basically flat. I kept trying to get her to wear thick tennis shoes, but she wasn't having it. Good thing she's at least hit this milestone so I don't have to worry about forcing her into big shoes on our next Disney trip!

Re: DD2 has reached an important milestone...

That's very cool. 40" opens up a lot of opportunities.

We just measured my DD this morning to see if she was tall enough for the attractions at Disney Quest. (49.5...a tad short). we might be able to make it up with some thick soled shoes but the way she is growing right now we might not need them!

Ah I wish she was 40", but we've just barely reached 35". Is there a magic potion we can give our kids to make them extra tall during a Disney trip?

Howabout some pixie dust and lots of hugs and kisses...and maybe a little milk...lol...besides, you don't want them to grow up too fast...my DD no longer wants to wear princess dressesIts cool that she's taller but I will miss her times with all the princesses.

Re: DD2 has reached an important milestone...

Congrats! I bet she'll want to ride the Matterhorn on repeat!

My daughter was 39½" on our trip last September, so we had to do child swap for several rides and it was kind of a bummer for her. We've been marking off her "progress" on her growth chart ever since, and now she's almost 41", so she'll get to ride BTMRR -and- Splash Mountain for the first time on her 4th birthday in 2 weeks! She is so super excited. :) I remember the first trip that my older daughter was tall enough to ride these...we got her a pin that said "I am the minimum height requirement." She was so proud of herself. As sad as it is to watch them grow up as fast as they do, it is nice when they get to do something fun that they've never been able to try before! Have fun.

Thanks! Here's a picture of the pin...

I get so tired of the humidity and lack of seasons in Florida...but the resident discounts and proximity to WDW are great! :)
