Flight change

Has anyone ever changed their flight departure going home without penalty? Foolishly, I made our departure to come home earlier than I would like it now. Delta is charging $100 per ticket. Anyway I can skirt around this? Any suggestions?

I tried to extend our trip too. Delta was going to charge us $100 per ticket for any change. For a while during the Iraq war, they waived the fee, but this ended may 31st.
There is no way to get past this charge. This is the penalty for getting a restricted ticket.

When we were waiting to board our flight home, Delta offered a $400 voucher per person if we traded our seat in for a later flight. It was very tempting. I don't understand why they are willing to give you so much at boarding, but won't let you make a change a few weeks or months earlier.

I think it is because they overbook. We have friends who were offered tickets to anywhere within the 48 states to get bumped. They were in Newark and had to go only to Albany. They took the tickets rented a car, drove two hours home and flew to Disneyland the next year with those vouchers.
If I get offered that deal I will JUMP at the chance.;)
