Re: How old were you.....

I was 18, a senior in high school and we went to MK. There were no other parks then! We had ticket books to go on rides! The ticket books had tickets good for certain ride categories. The E tickets were for the bigger rides and you only got a couple of those in your packet so you weren't able to ride your favorites over and over. How things have changed!

Re: How old were you.....

I was nearly 13 when we went in 1984. I remember thinking that I was too old for WDW at that point! Funny how that has changed. It took me 23 years to get back and now I've been 4 times in the last 3 years!

Re: How old were you.....

First trip was to DL - went with Mom, Mom's best friend, and my little sister. I was 9. The first attraction we went on was Haunted Mansion...I was so terrified, screamed the entire time, and refused to go on another ride the rest of the day. I had nightmares for weeks!

Second trip was to WDW - went with Mom, Dad, and little sister. My first reaction was, "Main Street is sooo much bigger than Main Street in DL!" It just felt completely different. I rode every attraction except Haunted Mansion - to this day, I'm still terrified of that ride!

It is pretty cool to recall the changes over the years. I used to LOVE riding in the skybuckets over Fantasyland, which of course has been gone since the early 90's. Although, most of the stuff I remember and really LOVED as a little kid is still there & basically untouched; Dumbo, Peter Pan, and of course Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!! I actually think I was tall enough on that first trip in '83 to ride BtMRR, maybe one of the reasons I still love it so much was because it was my first thrill ride?

I do remember one BIG fuss that always happened every trip. I would BEG, and BEG, and BEG to go on Space Mountain but since my Grandma was scared of rides in the dark I was NEVER able to go on. Finally after 6 years of BEGGING to go on my Grandma (god bless her) finally agreed to ride with me when I was 11 years old. Ohhhhh, that did NOT go over well. She HATED it and looked like she saw a ghost in a wind tunnel for about 4 hours. After that I was on my own. haha

Re: How old were you.....

Gosh, my first trip was to Disneyland and I was so young...I don't remember it I do have memories of later visits though. We'd usually visit at least twice a year, once during summer and then again at Christmas Funny thing that one of my memories concerns the actual drive to the park. It seems that I was very aware of the sort of bushes that were planted on the way to Disneyland and on the outside of Disneyland. Whenever I saw those I knew we were close and my excitement level went even higher!!! Other little memories include getting a Welch's Grape Juice Bar each visit during summer..and trying not to get it on my clothes(because it'll stain ya know) Always getting my Mickey Mouse balloon as we walked back up Main St. to make our way out of the park...and...getting into my jammies before we headed out so that I could fall asleep in the back of our station wagon. Of course...I never fell asleep until I was certain we were out of the parking lot. The car had to pass over the security spike things before I would even consider admitting that I was sleepy

Re: How old were you.....

OH! I remembered something else....hehe

My first watch was a Mickey Mouse watch. I got it on one of our visits Up to that point, for some reason, I was not too concerned about learning to tell time correctly I was just not into it, probably lazy. Anyway....once they put that watch on my wrist it was like magic...All of a sudden, it was no problem to tell time I was reporting the time to my family about every 15 minutes..I'm sure they were questioning their decision to give me that watch Of course it really came in handy later that evening. You see, I knew what time the park closed..and we were not gonna leave one minute before midnight!

Guess I just needed some Mickey motivation to bring out the time telling fool in me

Re: How old were you.....

I was 38 and I went as a presenter at my company's yearly manager's convention. I was showing off the new computing platform we were going to be rolling out to all the offices. The trip was supposed to be my reward for pushing my team so hard to come up with a comprehensive computing environemnt with networked computers, email, and all the bells and whistles.

I fell victim to my own success and ended up spending 5 days and 5 nights in a room at the Dolphin giving demonstrations to various office heads who were all pretty drunk most of the time.

On the last day, after everything was packed and ready to ship back I finally made it to the park with my network tech who is a real WDW nut. It kept raining on and off, but we hit pretty much every ride in the Magic Kingdom. It made the whole trip worth while, well that and the fact that my company started sending me to the Lotus Notes conference every year after that.
