Apparently we are in the same age bracket, because your story is the same as mine! We stayed at some dive hotel on International Drive, but it was still a great trip and I fell in love with WDW. Oh, we also went to a Roller Disco where I believe I wore my Sassoon designer jeans.

Re: How old were you.....

I was 30 years old when my parents treated me to my first trip to WDW. We kids only had to pay for our airfare and food. The rest was paid for with the money my grandma had left them with the instructions to take the family on a vacation together.

We were only there 5 days, but it was such a nice get-a-way, especially since I was going through a difficult divorce and my son was not quite 2 years old.

I guess that's why I love going back to WDW. For me it has lots of family memories, especially since both my parents are now gone.

Re: How old were you.....

Lol, I was 24 and it was in 2007. I was a deprived child and never got to go to Disney. I'm so lucky we go so often. I've now been 4 times. That's why it frustrates me that my 4 yr old ds takes our trips for granted. He complains and when we announced our last trip, he kept talking about not wanting to go to Disney, instead going to the beach. I've had a little talk with him about how lucky he really is. Luckily once we get there, his beach desires go away and he has a ball.

Well your son is only four and doesn't know any better. I have a 17 year old who very much takes it for granted so much that I've decided to leave her home this year. We'll see if she changes her tune..

Re: How old were you.....

I was 14. It was the most wonderful trip my parent ever took me on. I was hooked. We go as often as we can get away. My daughters are already obsessed. We took them for the first time at 18 months and 2 years old respectively. I wanted them to experience the magic from an early age so the believed that everything they were seeing whole heartedly.

Re: How old were you.....

I was 29. My wife had been once before in the early 80's and was the Disneyphile of the family. My daughter was four.

It was great, but we had not clue what we were doing. You know those people who look like deer caught in the headlights? Yeah, that was us. Still we muddled through what we thought was a once in a lifetime trip.

Now we're DVC members and go just about every year.

Bruce

Re: How old were you.....

It was June 1973 and I was 12. We stayed at a Howard Johnsons off site. We spent 2 days at MK (that was all they had then) 1 day at Bush Gardens and 1 day at Cyphres Gardens. I wanted to spend the day at Kennedy Space Center and was told it was nothing but concrete.

Re: How old were you.....

I was 15, yr. 1973. I rode along with my Aunt, cousin and family friends with their two children and the grandmother. We were gone two weeks. Drove from Lincoln Ne towing campers. We did hit 6 Flags over GA and rode the newest roller coaster - the one that was just under water a few weeks ago!

We camped at a KOA campground, or something similar to that name. The only park was MK and it was not complete. Tomorrowland was still under construction. My Aunt was a crab, she refused to stay until the fireworks so we left before the dinner hour! She also refused to let us ride Tiki and IASW because they already did that in DL a few years ago. She also spent the day comparing DL to MK. I bought a pair of 14K gold Mickey mouse earings that were stud earings, the WDW logo of the world with ears. She chewed me out for spending my money on such an expensive item. They were $20.00 I had such a bad time I ended up giving my earings away because they reminded me of my horrible trip. I wish I had them now. I have kept my distance from this women ever since and I am 52 now. *yes, we had ticket books. I forgot about that.

The only photos I have are faded SLIDES. My father refused to let us use prints because they fade, well, there isn't much left of my Kodak slides. We do have them on our family web site. Go to Thompson and Buss Web Site choose the Family Disney Web link in the left side of page. Go all the way down to the bottom and you will see Kathy's 1973 trip. What a hoot to look at! When you see the two girls in the Liberty square torture thing, can't remember it's name, I am on the right (I have the dark hair). You will also see that the sky ride ends and only grass, no Space Mountain. Also their is a shot over the tea cups I believe and you can see the walls of Tomorrowland construction. Also note, the trees are so tiny. The Haunted Mansion isn't hidden at all and only land where Splash is now located. Enjoy. If somebody knows how to copy those and move them here, have at it.

Kathy
