Newbie Saying Hello

Hello All,

I am new to the forum but have been lurking in the background for a month or so and decided it was time to jump in and say hello.
My wife, daughter and I will be visiting Disney for our first time the last week of Sept. It is great to read that this is one of the better times of the year to go.
We are very excited and before we know it , it will be here.

We will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge and have also read some very positive reviews.

I must admit, our heads are spinning with this being our first trip and all our friends and relitives telling us to do this, and you must see that. Seems overwhelming at times.

Anybody with newbie hints or suggestions please feel free to post your input. Can't get much more confused!!

Looks like a great bunch out here and just wanted to step in and wave a hand and thank you for all the information that's out here.

Mark

Welcome to DisneyCentral handyhaver!

First WDW trip! Cool, I am so excited for you!

I guess my main tip for WDW travellers especially first timers is not to be so focused on doing everything that you forget to enjoy the whole experience. Look around, soak up the atmosphere, sit on a bench with a Dole Whip and watch the people go by. Eat 3 turkey legs and ride the teacups 5 times. (OK maybe not that last one)

There are a lot of wonderful Disney experts here, there are very few questions that don't get answered so ask away!

welcome to DC handyhaver I agree with mmouse67l, (but ohh no not the teacups 5 times ) there is so much to do and take in (sounds like the beginning of Lion King huh) but the important thing is enjoy it !! Trying to go full blast your first time may take some of the magic out. Dont worry it might be your first time but you will want to go back again and again :)

Welcome to DC,handyhaver. I would suggest that you decide on some "must-dos" at each park and the rest fall into the"if we have time" category.

WELCOME to the very BEST Disney site on the World Wide Web, Handyhaver!!! You will find all of the info you need, from knowledgeable people who LOVE the WDW Magic!!! With that being said, I am going to piggy back on to what everyone else here said...since this is your first time, DON'T think you will be able to do everything...it simply is not possible! :dazed I have been to WDW 9 times since 1997 and there are still SOOOO many things that I have not done! Most importantly, you need to relax, let the Magic soak in and have someone pinch you, because you will think you are dreaming!!! There is NOTHING like your first trip...you will remember it forever. So make it special...find a bunch of MUST DO's, and let the rest just slide into place...play it by ear...MICKEY EARS, of course!!! :)

Welcome to DC! :D I can already tell you this is the best site in the world!!! Hehe. And I'm fairly new, too, so take my word for it!

September is a wonderful time of year to go to WDW! (I will be there approximately a week before you!) :) You will have a fantastic time as long as you remember to take it easy. Do what you want, when you want, and don't worry about seeing every single thing. That's what return trips are for! ;)

That is great that you will be staying at the WL! Even more Disney Magic for your first trip.

If you have any questions, just ask! We looove to answer! :)

Welcome to DC, handyhaver :) We are always tickled to add a new member of the crew. Its another brain to pick and friendship to make.

I wish there was a way to capture a person's expression on both the outside and inside on their first venture into the Magic Kingdom. It will definitely be a trip you will remember for the rest of your life. If it were me, I would make loose notes on what we have posted to this website. You can get lost in your attempt to do it all and remember what you read here. Take tips on restaurants such as where to eat and the best times to eat as well as the best transportation options for you and the fam. After that, just let the magic take you to wherever it will. Hopefully, your trip will be so unbelieveable that it won't be your last. Then, come back here and pull the more detailed information for later trips.

We should also inform you that as a newbie with a trip scheduled within the next 3 months, you are dutifully required to add to our archive of trip reports upon your return. ;)

Welcome, Mark! :)

Thank you for your kind welcome!!! (By the way this count down thing is so cool!!)

We are starting to put a plan together, and we also need to make some reservations for the character breakfast. Anything else we might need to make reservations for way in advance??

The faifytale package was such a good deal that it enabled us to stay at the WL. I understand that place is breathtaking and could almost be a vacation within itself.

Well, I think I'll put the search feature to use and do some cruising.

Just wanted to thank you all for your kind words and warm welcome.

Mark

welcome handyshaver to DC like everyone suggests I would do the things that are a must do and just take your time and enjoy the scenery I would suggest getting a list of each parks attractions and then sitting down with your family and asking which of these do you really want to do ( from what I have heard the unofficial guide of wdw (I think thats what its called) is great to have ) .

One of my favorites that you will probably need PS for is Ohanas it is so good the food and is great for kids. Another restaurant right where you are staying ,Whispering canyon cafe is another favorite it has great food there and is fun for kids there

Welcome handyhaver!

As a newcomer too I understand being so overwhelmed! We are in the process of putting together a loose plan too.

I'd like to add an additional plea for help - while DH and I have been before, this is the first time for DD (5) and DS (3). Add to that ALL the in-laws and there are 10 of us total.

Any advice for going in a larger group?? Will it be a problem to get PS's for so many? I know we won't make everyone happy, but any tips would be appreciated!!

Thanks everyone!

Hi Mark: I am so glad you decided to jump in instead of lurking in the background. I will be looking forward to your trip report. It is so refreshing to see DW from the eyes of someone going for their first trip. Yes, there is so much to find out around here. I am planning my 11 trip and learn something new almost every day. Just ask a question about anything your're confused about..someone will answer or confuse you even more!:D
