Need advice about a Disney vacation
I am hoping that you my wonderful friends here at DC can help. Im kind of depressed today about what my DH decided about our next Disney vacation.
Although we have been back about a month now from our disney trip Im having Disney withdrawls. I have been talking over with my DH since we have been back, about our next trip and we decided on a Disney Cruise... I started getting the iterary, prices etc and began to get excited yahoo. Well tonight my DH says that we arent going to be able to go on the cruise because we need to spend at least 1 year at home without a vacation and use the $$$ that we would have used for the cruise to do little things around the house. He said that we should wait until 2005. ( I know thats not a long time away) I just dont think that I can do it. I understand where he is coming from but I really want to go. Am I being selfish and should I just wait?

I know how you feel. My better half would push more towards fixing up the house or something and skipping a vacation or two. But I don't believe in skipping a vacation for any reason.
I wish I could give you some advice. We are going again next May, but the year after that , who knows , we may be in your exact situation. Good Luck!!

There are so many ways to do a WDW trip. You can go and stay off site for a few days and get your Disney fix and then go again in 2005 like me (check out my counter!). You can get a good hotel rate through one of the on line hotel site like hot wire and not break the bank with lodging. (I have read about people getting the Swan for $79 a night through one of the sites.) Set a tight budge and pay everything with cash so you don't over spend. You can eat counter service for most meals and have one good sit dowm meal during your trip.
A 3 to 4 day trip will give you a quick fix and not break the bank. You can set money aside every payday and try to pay for the trip from money that you would have spend eating out or on little things that you can live with out. We tend to spend what we earn so if you put it aside on payday you may not miss it. A quick off site stay is much cheaper than a cruise. See if you can sell him an alternative to the cruise to get your Disney fix. Good luck!!:)

Like DT also said, you can go to WDW and make it a cheaper, more affordable vacation by staying off site...at least you will still be at Disney! Lastly, you can stay at an All Star Resort, which is a lot cheaper than the Moderates and Deluxe Resorts! It's really up to you guys and how you can swing it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! ;)

I think the suggestion to do a little, offsite trip is a good idea. Are either you or your DH active or retired military or reserves or do you have any family members or friends that are?

If all you want to do at your hotel is sleep and get ready for the day,I can recommend a good hotel off-site called the Chalet motel on US 192. For 18 dollars a night,(5 extra for 2nd person),it's a real bargain. Mind you,it's the classic romance novel hero and heroine are on the run, they check into a cheap dump kind of place, but the beds are comfortable, they give you two towels & two washcloths, and most of the rooms have both refrigerator and microwaves. If I can remember where I put their card,I will come back to this thread and put their address and phone number here.

I know the feeling we have the same discussions here at our house. Only ours is geared toward college is coming you know!. We have a pack now and we agree to go on a leat one big vacation every 18 months, small side vacations, and long weekends come sporadicly throughout the year. Vacations are a neccessary part of life and my DH has to be physically out of town so that work is off his mind.
Have you tried putting a little away each week, half of it into fix-up fund, a half into your disney vacation fund. For just the two of you a quick 4-5 day disney vacation if you a budget conscience could be a cheap as 1,500.00 for room, tickets and food. I know because we went for a quick 5 day trip in 2001 and our family of 5 did everything for 1,800.00. We stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza for 69.00 a night, We would have stayed at the POR but they had no rooms available, our passes were 4 day hoppers 900.00. Breakfast was supplied by the hotel, we had lunch in the parks (mostly counter service) and dinner at places like Planet Hollywood, Prime Time Cafe, Kona Cafe, Beaches and Cream we really did have a great time I did miss staying on site. It's harder to stay off I think once you've stayed on site. Sometimes they offer great deals on the moderates at disney. We had added this short 5 day trip to our vacation a St. Pete's Beach and I'm so happy we did because I would have truly felt cheated being that close and not going. I wish you luck I know how that disney bug can get to you. It's now been over a year for me and I can't wait to go (60 days and counting). Paula

If I lived where you live I would go to WDW far more often than I do. You are lucky in that you can make day trips. OUr next trip will be for at least 10 days so when we go we try to make it a nice long trip.

WEDINDISNEY--
I'm kinda in the same boat as you are (no pun intended). Our last trip was Thanksgiving 2002 and it was just myself & DH; DD didn't go so it's been since October 2001 for her. Just today when I talked to my DH on the phone I told him that I really wanted to go back to WDW at Thanksgiving. His answer, NO!! We really would like to do Disneyland in 2005 for the big 50th celebration and since we live in Missouri, that means flying instead of driving the 1200 miles it takes us to WDW. Thus, the expense, etc. DH put his foot down this spring about going to WDW this year. I'm really trying to work him down but so far, nothing. Maybe you can do the off site land package like everyone else suggested. Maybe you'll have better luck than I'm having! |

I want to thank all of you for your support and ideas. Im still working on him. And we shall see what happens. I'm hoping that he will change his mind. I was thinking about putting a little money aside that he doesnt know about and when it gets built up go and book the vacation. Then when its paid off just tell him...
I was thinking about it today and if I plan the cruise for around sept or oct of next year that gives me over a year to save the money etc and still be able to do the around the house projects that he wants to do. The only thing that Im worried about is its hurricane season during that time. I guess I cant win....

From my point of view...not going to Disney is inhumane! ;) I guess now that I'm 18 and earning all my own money, I intend to go every year. I can understand why the thought of NOT going would be awful!!! Especially if you had started looking forward to a cruise....
I don't know...give it some time. Maybe he'll change his tune! :laugh A Disney fanatic can always hope...I'm crossing my fingers that you'll get to go!

I will be in the same boat next year. We got hooked on WDW due to a conference I attended there each year. When I changed occupations the freebe trips came to an end and all of a sudden it was much more difficult to talk my DW into going. For a couple of years I kept telling her it was going to be the last trip for a while, but each year my DD and I managed to talk our way into one more trip. THis year was easy as we all really wanted to see the holiday decorations. However part of the "price" for this year was to promise a vacation in Mexico for next year. And I already tried telling her we would visit the Mexico pavillion each day if we went back to Disney, she just isn't going for it :).

I know exactly how you feel. We started going to DW with my DH's company, then it stopped. So, now we have to pay for the trips. It does get costly. That is why my DH and I usually stay at the moderate resorts. As far as our family we do not spend that much time in our room, since all our children are adults now.
We seem to be on the go constantly. We were able to visit DW in May, and now going back in Nov. We did get a good price for the room, so that helps out alot. What we save on the room, is more money for me to go "shopping " with!!!! JOANN
