Opinions, Please!

I'm wondering: what's everyone's opinion on the alcohol being sold in all the Disney parks except MK? I especially don't like the bar in the middle of Animal Kingdom. Is that what people go to Disney to do, spend their time drinking? :dazed
Just curious if this has struck anyone else as rather Non-Disney-like? :)

I don't have a problem with it. I have not paid a lot of attention to how many places sell alcohol in each park. I have never seen anyone in the parks who has had too much to drink. I know poeple are on vacation and may want to enjoy a glass of wine or have a drink with dinner. I have heard people like to get a drink and stroll around Epcot and enjoy the atmosphere. I am okay with it because it doesn't affect my vacation and I don't want to tell other people what they can and can't do.

I think you are anticipating a worse case scenario here.

Alcohol does tend to dehydrate the consumer. Starting a vicious yet profitable cycle (potentially). And I do find it unusual to offer alcoholic drinks in a theme park who's rides can churn a cheeseburger and fries into violent graffiti. I would think they would like to lower the percentages of unexpected art on the rides and in the parks.

But, if you are old enough to acquire and wealthy enough or so economically stupified to pay for alcohol in the parks (YIKE$). Its OK with me.

My DH is a smoker and likes the fact that there are only designated smoking areas. It's a nice rest for a couple minutes and you don't have to worry about anyone bumping a cigarette. We don't object to alcohol in the parks but feel that it should be the same as smoking and only in certain areas. Last time we were at AK we saw a lot of people walking around with beer. We have never seen anyone drunk but think more in the terms of if someone sets a drink down on a wall and a child picks it up.:D

I don't drink, but it doesnt bother me if other adults do. DH wouldnt say no to a nice cold beer when walking in the heat all day.

I do not have a problem with it at all. If the guest is over 21 and wants to enjoy a drink, then all the power to them! As for putting a drink down and a child picking it up and drinking it...that is just unacceptable, and I don't think that would happen! maybe I am naive, but I haven't seen people just leave their trash laying around the parks! There are garbage cans EVERYWHERE you turn, so that shouldn't be an issue...let's hope!!! :D And like DT said, some people (myself included) like to have a drink (my choice is a margarita from Mexico..yum!) and stroll around the World Showcase and take in the sights and sounds...to me, it's a lot better than just sitting in a bar and grabbing a drink! ;)

Hi everyone!

I'm not a drinker myself, but I do like a good margarita or nice glass of white zinfadel about once or twice a year.

One year my DH and I put our girls in the Neverland Club and we hit Epcot by ourselves.

I treated myself to a strawberry margarita in Mexico.. WOW :p it was one of the best tasting things I've ever had!!

Now also that year we were at WDW during the Wine thing at Epcot, I did notice some adults that had obviously been around the world tasting everything. They weren't out of hand, but you could tell they were having a little bit more fun than everyone else;) .

It's all the world we live in now. It's just one of those things you need to tell yourself not to worry about and enjoy just being at WDW.:)

I see no issues with it as long as people drink responsibly and aren't getting out of control. I honestly have never witnessed any such behavior at Disney. Unlike other amusements parks throughout the US.

My wife and I are 'beer people', but are of the age where we prefer quality over quantity. We enjoy a pint at the R&C, a Ringnes in Norway, and especially a cold one at the 'bar' in the AK. The music there is fun.

I can't remember seeing anyone who's 'had too much' but expect that it does happen. Who can afford to drink to excess!

The present level of availablilty seems about right. During my last visit in 2001, I was suprised to see that you could walk around with a beer in EPCOT. I seemed to remember in the past that comsumption had to take place in the 'country' of origin.

What made me start thinking about this was a time when I stopped at the gift stand by that bar in AK and watched 2 little kids running around the tables trying to amuse themselves while the adults sat and sat, drinking up a storm! And it got me to wondering how many "family" vacations are ruined by this. I don't mean a glass of good wine at dinner, or one beer with your 'burger. And I've sat at the Polynesian and had strawberry Daiquiris myself. (I think they have the best in the country!)
But, you just KNOW some people are going to overdo it! Just seems inappropriate to me, somehow. Maybe I expect too much because it's DISNEY! Doesn't bother me at other parks..........

I don't think they will ever sell alcohol at the MK because Walt wouldn't have wanted it. I read somewhere that the reason St. Louis was rejected as a possible site for WDW was because Annhauser Busch expected to be able to sell beer in the MK,and Walt absolutely forbade it.
