It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Ok, it's not quite the most wonderful time yet, but I have a question for everyone.
When does everyone start getting excited about Christmas and the upcoming Holidays?
My mom and I usually start shopping in October but this year has been crazy!

So how about it?

Oh man!!! My wife is done shopping already!! We started shopping in August. We feel that if we get the shopping done early, we can enjoy more of the holiday happenings in our town. But there are always last minute items we pick up.

o.k. stop with the boo's from the peanut gallery!!!

Boooo, rlander!:D

Well, I start getting excited about Thanksgiving right after Halloween, and Christmas just BEFORE Thanksgiving, LOL!

However, I am a little mixed up this year, because the front of my Disney Store is full of Halloween costumes and the back is full of Christmas ornaments and Christmas plush, etc.:dazed :laugh

The backstage are is Halloween on one side and Christmas on the other, it's really kind of crazy looking!

Poor old Thanksgiving gets 3rd place I guess.

Anyway, great thread aurora's twin. I start the colossal Christmas baking and freezing around Dec 10th.

I :heart that time of year!

I am a retail manager for Eckerd Drugs. I start putting out holiday merchandise in July believe it or not. It gets earlier every year I sware. I actually start to get excited around now. I have already started my shopping and will probally be done by the end of November as usual. I work way to much in December to Xmas shop. Besides the last thing I want to do after working a 10 hour day, 6 day week is fight the Christmas shoppers. I fight them all week. My store is always decorated to the nines for the holidays. It helps keep the spirit alive when someone is screaming at you for selling out of a paticular item.

I am about half way done with my shopping now. I pick things up as I see them so I don't have all the stress of trying to fight the crowds and come up with the money all at once. We try to finish up by Thanksgiving time. However, I love to go to the malls to get in the holiday mood and see what is hot for Christams. It is nice to take Nate to see Santa at the mall knowing we are finished running around.

My problem is, the earlier I start the more I buy for each person. I tend to keep adding to everyone's gift as time goes by. Right now the trunk of my car has all my DS's presents in it. He is old enough to snoop but I would hate for him to run across them looking for a ball that rolled under my bed!

I do the same thing. Even though I am finished, I always end up picking up little things here and there. Last year, I forgot about two presents hidden under my bed. They are still wrapped. Guess they will go in this year's pile. If only I could remember what they were...:laugh :laugh

Great thread Idea Aurora! Personally I am already excited about Christmas! I usually feel all bummed out the week after christmas becuase I know it will be a whole year before its Christmas again! Thanksgiving has really got me excited this year too, becuase as you can see in one of my MANY countdowns (lol) I am going to Maryland to visit my Grandparents! The Holiday season is the best. Its the only time of year when everyone gets together and is happy and smiling, and singing, and stuffing our faces, and its cold outside ( 70 degrees is cold for us floridians). Anyways, Now Im even MORE excited for the holidays, can't we just skip halloween?
Joe:)

I just CAN'T get into the Christmas spirit before Halloween. :bandit I :heart Halloween and don't want to be so hasty for Christmas that I miss one of my favorite holidays.

I hit the malls hard on the day after Thanksgiving. Yes, I am one of those who sits in the living area on Thanksgiving Day planning my direction of attack. I am usually buying that last gift or something I need for my children's Christmas outfit on Christmas Eve. My hubby usually has to pull me back in and re-assure me that whatever didn't get bought won't be missed.

This year I'll be in NYC visiting iluvwdw in December so I am really looking forward to some special shopping and holiday stuff.

This is truly my favorite time of the year.

Hey,Amy,how is your working at The Disney Store going? Do you have a great time every time you go to work,or has the magic begun to get less?(I hope it doesn't!!)

I usually get excited and start to decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.

Anne

I had to smile when you mentioned your "attack plan" for Black Friday. My Mom and her three sisters all bring their sale ads to Thanksgiving dinner and after dinner they plan. They have done this for as long as I can remember. All three of them think of it as a sport and winner gets the best deals. They have been known to divide and conquer with each one of them hitting an early morning special at a different store. It's comical to watch how into they get. I look forward to it every year.

Oh YEAH BABY!!!!

I am all about it!!! Seriously, my sister, mother and I do the same thing. I have been doing it for about 12 years and they used to just laugh at me until I would bring home what I had bought. In fact, my sister used to get soooo annoyed with me. She worked management retail for years and would say, "YOU are the customer that I HATE!!!" LOL!!! Slowly but surely, they have come to join me... LOL!!! It actually IS alot of fun and I can't wait until our little girls are old enough to join us. It is a "GIRLS DAY" around our house.

I guess I'm a grinch when it comes to Christmas presents.

Several years ago, after we purchased this house, it was a very lean money year and we instituted the "homemade only" Christmas policy. Only "santa" buys gifts. Everyone else must find a way to make theirs. It has worked so well, we never started buying again. I sew for the children and Dh uses his woodworking and metalworking skills to make them something. Last year, we received the best pictures from the 4 yo, handmade doilies from our 10 yo and an array of imagination filled gifts from our 13 yo. It provides a lot of thought on everyone's part and we concentrate on decorating, celebrating as a family and cooking wonderful goodies to give to our extended family.

Santa is already done shopping this year. With only a single large gift to buy per child and a few stocking stuffers, I finish in one night online. Not shopping is good for all of us, and gives us lots more family time. We also spend less in meals out and gas this way. A very important thought when you live 20 minutes from WalMart and 45 minutes from the nearest mall (that doesn't even have a DS anymore).

Lynnette,

I don't consider you a scrooge at all. Handmade gifts from your children are lovely. I think it's wonderful that you all use your imagination to create gifts from the heart for each other. Everyone has their own Christmas traditions and I think yours are special.:)

The day after Thanksgiving!!!

Oh, you just HAD to get me started, didn't you??? :D I look forward to the day after Thanksgiving almost more than I look forward to Christmas day!!! Hahahaha.

Gotta get up at like 5 AM, hit all the stores (where it is complete and total madness, by the way, but that's half the fun!) and get free juice and doughnuts...go gangbangers until almost noon, and then have lunch and go to the movies! (This year "Haunted Manion" is on the roster--HOORAY!!!) Then go home and wrap all the great stuff you bought!!!! :D :heart
