Airline question

Hello,
Probobly a real stupid question, but here it goes. I bought some really good Havati and herb cheese and some Bavarian Summer Sausage from Hickory Farms the other night. I need to take my evening medications with food. I was going to take these with me for my night time snack. My question is: Will the airlines confiscate a pocket knife if it is in your checked luggage? I really don't want to get into any trouble.

Chris

When we went in Sept. they were checking luggage (xraying) before it even went on the plane, I wouldn't even take a chance you wouldn't want them to make you miss your flight or who knows what else. but that is me, a worry wart!!!:nervous

just buy some plastic silverware when you get down there, maybe that would be easier than losing something of value!!;)

TTFN, Jacki:)

Chris:
The TSA folks who do the screening will take any sharp objects that are in you CARRY-ON luggage. They will NOT take these items out of CHECKED luggage. Scissors, pocket knives Nail Clippers, etc., can travel in you checked luggage.

You should not have a problem if it is in your checked luggage. I bring a Swiss Army knife with me when traveling. Just be sure that it's where you think it is.

Anecdote
Many years ago, I travelled through Japan. On my trip home, I packed my SA knife in my carry-on bag. The security personnel were understanding, but confiscated the knife and had me fill out a form. I was disappointed at my oversight, but resigned to the loss. To my surprise, a few weeks later, my knife arrived in the mail courtesy of Northwest airlines. I was stunned!

Like Jacki said, use plastic when you get there. Or ask for a knife from the restaurant in the hotel. I'm sure they will be happy to accomadate you when you get there.

Beyond the metal object issue which seems to have been covered, they are also warning people about not putting food in their suitcases because it attracts the dogs. If it is still vacuum sealed, I cannot imagine that there would be a problem, but I thought I would mention it.

Try it, what's the worst that could happen? They take it away? I flew to Orlando from Newark 2 weeks ago and I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I had a bag of syringes in my carry on and NO ONE questioned them. This also happened last year when I flew.

I am also an insulin dependent diabetic--my doctor gave me a letter to carry just in case they stopped me because of my needles. I have never traveled with them before. I wondered if they would say anything.

If you have a medical reason for carrying syringes,I don't see the security folks taking them away from you.

Asking for a knofe from the resort might be a good idea. The plastic knife thing wouldn't work for the sausage though. I think the Sausage is tougher than the plastic.
