Need some prayers and pixie dust for DS

My son is supposed to graduate from college in May. He is scheduled to do his student teaching in PE next semester. Last week he tore his ACL and the other ligament in his knee. If he can't do the student teaching he will have to go back to school next fall and won't graduate for another year. We have a daughter in college also and just can't afford 2 another year. My son is a professional college student and has been there for 6 years! Makes good grades, just couldn't decide on a major. We are praying that somehow he will be able to complete his requirements.:nervous  :( Hey I appreciate you reading this...makes me feel better somehow!;)

Oh no! What an awful situation.

If your son has to delay his student teaching til the fall semester, couldn't he student teach in the fall and then graduate in December? Then he might be able to substitute teach til he finds a permanent teaching position. Many times, a long term sub position turns into a permanent position.

Good luck to him!

Yes, he would graduate next Dec. but that is a whole year from now and we are supporting him, his sister and us! There will be no DW trips for me! Thanks so much for the well wishes.

Sending lots of prayers and pixie-dust that your son recovers quickly, so he can graduate on time!

I'll be thinking of your family, please let us know how he is doing!

Here is some pixie dust for your DS. I hope he is back on his feet soon.

My DH and his brother both tore ACLs and had to have surgery. My BIL was in college and didn't miss a beat, he had surgery on a Friday and was back at school on Monday (on crutches, of course). My DH had a similar surgery a couple years later and had an even easier recovery. My DH was driving again and back to work right away. Both went to rehab and continued going to school or teaching. With good therapy he should be back on his feet with in weeks of surgery. My DH is strong and healthy and he got to rehab as fast as he wanted and was off crutches pretty fast.

Good luck!!

thanks DisneyTeacher that is encouraging. I would not be worried if he was not majoring in PE. I don't see how he can teach PE on crutches or with a leg brace.

Things are not looking well. Doctor told him today that the ACL was torn and the other ligament was even worse. Going tomorrow for a consult with surgeon. Looks like student teaching is out. Advisor told him there was no way he could do it with the surgery as he would have to teach games in PE. I am really bummed out over this.

Leslie -

I am so sorry. You know you are in my thoughts, but I will now add you and your son to my prayers too. My sister had this surgery her snior year of high school and her recovery was hard work but she bounced back sooner than expected. It's the first week that's a bugger. Your son must be devasted to go to college for so long and then when he gets to find out what he wants and almost gets there he hits a huge bump. I wish I could do or say something to make it better. Take care. I'll be thinking of you...pixie dust by the tons for you and your son.

I am so sorry he didn't get better news. I am a little surprised he was told he couldn't student, even in PE. I am sure in 3-4 weeks he would be in pretty good shape and using his crutches well if he still needed them. But, if that is what he was told he has to make the best of it. I graduated in December and got a full time job in November just as I finished my student teaching, it happens. I was lucky and in the right place at the right time. Worst case, he has to sub. That will give him great experience to take to a job the following year.

Don't give up all hope, everything happens for a reason.

BTW, My DH hasn't quit going to school yet, he has 2 degrees beyond his BS and is still taking classes. He loves to learn. He fits all of it in while teaching full time, coaching 2 sports, and teaching for 2 different colleges/universities in the evenings, weekends, and summers. AND he was a PE teacher, he is currently teaching chemistry and physics.

Trying to catch up on posts this morning and hoping that it's not too late to send pixie dust to you and your son. It doesn't matter how old your kids get, does it? In fact, the older they get the more complicated the problems seem to become. Of course the most important thing right now is his health. Try to take things one day at a time, and know that you're both in the thoughts and prayers of a lot of people.

Leslie... as a career student, I can tell you that everything will work out fine. It sounds like he and I are two kindred spirits when it comes to our collegiate careers. I was a PE minor too! LOL!

Leslie, everything will workout as it is supposed to... have a little pixie dust to help out until the road becomes apparent.
