Myrtle Beach Recommendations

I want to surprise my wife with a long weekend getaway to Myrtle Beach. We usually stay at moderate to lower end places when we go... I want a nice hotel that I could look into. She has put up with a lot lately between work, me, Nicholas, and housing/financial issues. I think this would be just the ticket to really surprise her and give her a chance to relax for a change.

I know many of you frequent Myrtle Beach, so what places do you recommend. Price is not too much an issue. I am wanting to go within the next month or two so rates will be lower.

We go to Myrtle beach area every year, however, we always rent a condo . Have not stayed in hotel fo a while, but have many friends that do.

What area are you wanting to stay in and do you want on the ocean, or near areas such as Barefoot Landing or Broadway at the beach?

We were there this summer for a very nice relaxing weekend.
We rented a condo, that was right on the water. If you are interested in that, let me know. It was beautiful, and we had a great time :)

You are a great hubby for doing that for your dw!!

Oh yes... good question.

Oceanfront.

I know the water is too cool this time of year, but to sit on the balcony, or even just stare out at the ocean is wonderful.

North or South Myrtle is fine, but we have never stayed North before.

Spidey have you considered Disney Hilton Head Island they have excellent rates and lots to do

http://dvc.disney.go.com/disneyvacat...eadRoomRateGrp

Check it out it's really cool and only about few hour more down the road. Okay three hours is a lot when your traveling with a little one I know. Just a thought. Never stayed at Mrytle Beach but I have been to Hilton Head Island and we loved it.

Was Hilton Head built by Disney or purchased?

The trip may be exclusive for mom and dad. :D

Built by Disney it's one of their DVC properties. We are thinking about taking our DS's there over Presidents Weekend. It's decorated in the color scheme very similair to the WL and the 2 bedroom has a king bed and a big whirlpool tub (President's weekend includes Valentine's Day) in one of the bedrooms. How romantic would that be vacation and a room to ourselves - no sharing a room with the boys. Ah luxury!

I was also going to suggest Hilton Head for a more romantic location. Myrtle is just more about the family and during off-season its like a ghost town with many things not even being open.

But, really Myrtle is were I want to go. We have been to Mrytle plenty of times during this season and find lots to do. I just wanted nice rooms and some fun pools or Hot Tubs or whatnot. I don't want this to be like a trip somewhere, just a little weekend getaway that's relatively close by. Hilton Head is way too far. Myrtle is about 2 hours. :)

If you really want a special treat the Sheraton and ask for the honeymoon suite. From what I've been told it is beautiful! I've also been told the new Camelot is nice and Breakers. I've only seen these from outside. I would just pull up a MB web site and check out the offerings from there. OH and if you are looking for a GREAT restuarant try Sarah J's in Surfside. IT IS AWESOME! It is small so go EARLY like 4:00 or 4:30.

Thanks. Camelot is a consideration already. Breakers too. I have the guidebook. Just hoping some of you had some stories to share or knew of some specific places you were partial to... I will propably just thumb through our book this week.

I suggested Camelot and Breakers because I've always really wanted to stay there but just haven't. I had some friends stay at Camelot and said it was GREAT! If you decide on either of these you MUST let me know how they are, so I can consider them for my next trip. We stay at a different hotel every Thanksgiving to try them out because the rates are so much lower. This past year we stayed at the Landmark (on southend with the blue walk across over the street) and liked it. They have an AWESOME indoor pool facility including an indoor lazy river!

Hey Spidey,

When we were there, we stayed in a Condo thru Dunes Realty.
There website is www.dunes.com

We were actually in Garden City, and had a great time, a couple of nights for fun we went to Crocodile Rocks at Broadway at the Beach, while the grandparents babysat.

Dunes really seems to have a lot of nice properties. The places that Willbegone suggested sound great also, and I would definately check them out, since housekeeping was not an option in our condos, and that would probably be nice for the both of you :)

Hope the info helps, can't wait to hear what you decide and how delighted DW is

I've eaten at Sarah J's and I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you about it. I haven't eaten there in 5 years, because I moved away from the area,so maybe it's improved, but I thought for what we paid for our dinners, the service was bad and the food came out warm to cold.

That really surprises me about Sarah J's. We've been there 3 times in the past 2 years and it has been better each time. The service was great and the food couldn't be beat ESPECIALLY the scallops. Maybe it has improved since you were there. It always amazes me how different people have different experiences at restaurants. For example I HATED the 50's Prime Time but everybody here seems to love it. Oh well! Thanks for the flip side review!
