What's a good age?

We've been talking for a few days about starting to plan a trip to DL, DD is only 15 months old though...Has anyone taken a toddler to DL? Is there a truly great age to take a child? Where they can go on all the rides and have a great time, and also be thrilled to bits at meeting Mickey?

TIA:) :D :!: :!:

We've been taking our kids starting at around 9 months old. I agree with Tink....any age is a great age, as long as YOU are ready for it!!

Here are some other threads on the same topic:

My DD's first trip was when she was 18 months old... Now when she saw Mickey she screamed and cried and was very scared of him, but when she saw Goofy she grabbed and hugged and kissed him, go figure.. Goofy was much larger than Mickey. Her favorite character was Goofy and remained Goofy until she passed. She did not see Minnie until after she saw Goofy so she did not cry at her, but Mickey of course the next year she loved on Mickey too. :heart :) :heart

Our DD was 4 the first time we took her. I agree with everyone else, be sure YOU are ready to deal with a young'un. For us it meant a trip back to the resort for nap time, dealing with strollers all day, and spending most of our time in Fantasyland. I would caution that you be a bit careful with the 3-D stuff, 10 years later Carolyn is still a bit freaked out by 3-D movies and we cannot get her to go back into Honey I Shrunk The Audiance even now.

Other then that it was great and the really fun part is each year you get to watch them not only enjoy their favorite rides, but watch their faces as they experiance all the firsts, first roller coaster (BTMR), first big drop (SM), being able to drive (Fantasyland Raceway), first looping coaster (RnR), and so much more.

Character dinners are a gas when they are little as well. Well truth is character dinners are still a blast:whistle: .

Enjoy,
-harry

We took our DD to DL when she was 20 months old. Her 1st trip to WDW was when she was 10 months old.
We really enjoyed DL with a toddler. IMO Fantasyland is much better in DL. We spent most of our time there. She could not go on the matterhorn, spalsh mountain or BTMR. Also Indiana Jones was out for her. But she enjoyed everthing else.
IMO DL is better than WDW for toddlers.
We enjoy both WDW and DL, however DL was much easier than WDW for a toddler.
Hope this is helpful
Karen

Ohh Grumpydad your so right about the first .. one of our favorite memories is of Our Barbie and her first time being tall enough for Splash mt. ..she and her sister High fived each other all the way to the ride! and when she went right back on and the new CM at the hieght stand wanted her to stand next to it she was sooo insulted and told him "I just got off and I am going to marry Brer Rabbit ..she would say "Hi Honey" every time she saw him in the ride!! She wanted a Brer Rabbit plush and DH and I both ended getting her one that year. She still has such a love for the ride and movie. the first are wonderful !!!

and I love showing these pictures off .. since you mentioned the character meals *grin*

In 1997 we took our daughter who was 11-months old at the time. Major stroller pushing. :D

I think they start to appreciate it at ages 5 or 6. By the time they are 7, you don't usually have to deal with the minimum height requirement that some rides have. :)

My son's first trip was when he was 7 1/2 months old...and he had a great time! He doesn't remember a thing, but he absolutely LOVED it! He just turned 2 in October and we just came back from his THIRD trip in December...and we will go on his FOURTH trip in 2 1/2 weeks, for the Meet & Greet! He actually remembers parts of his trip and loves looking at pictures of himself with the characters. I think ANY AGE is appropriate, as long as you can manage your expectations! Just HAVE FUN!!! ;)

We took my son for his 1st birthday in Dec 2002 and returned again in Dec 2003. He has always loved the characters and the rides. I can't imagine not having him there with me to share the magic with.

My youngest was just under two years old the first time that we went and she loved it! We'd been talking about it for a while beforehand and told her about meeting all the characters. We even warned her that they would be very tall but friendly. She had such a blast and loves going!

We took our daughter to DL when she was just 21 months old!! She loved it!! We stayed on site so it was easy to go back for naps!

Dad or I would stay with our 2 older ones and when DD got worn out we would go back for a rest!! Then when she was rested we would find each other with our walkie talkies!!

She definitely needed more breaks when she was little!! Now we cannot keep up with her most trips!!

She was not crazy about the characters that first time but has grown to love them since!!!

We talked about it with her before hand that way she did not get upset but she still did not want to hug them!!! Then the nest year she had to hug every character 10 times!!!:)

Have a great time!!!
