Disney, Saudi prince make strange bedfellows
There's a very interesting story in this morning's Orlando newspaper about how Disney is trying to get a multibillionaire Saudi Arabian prince to bail out financially struggling Euro Disney.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, reportedly the fifth-wealthiest man in the world with nearly $18 billion, chipped in $300 million in the 1990s to help keep Euro Disney afloat. Now Disney is trying to get him to help again. The prince has a meeting scheduled today in Burbank to discuss Euro Disney's plight with Michael Eisner. The prince, by the way, is the same Saudi whose offer of a $10 million contribution to the families of 9/11 victimes was rejected by then-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani because he said U.S. policies were partly to blame for the attacks. What a strange world, indeed.
