Psych. Teacher and Disney

Hey Guys, I have a interesting story to share with you all! Today was the 3rd day of 2nd semester classes at my school and one of my new classes is Psychology. My teacher is awesome, she is so funny and happy all the time and she cracks herself up. On the 2nd day of school she asked us to fill out a form full of little questions that she want's us to answer so she can learn more about us. One of the questions was "If you could have a 30 minute conversation with anyone thats ever lived who would it be and why?" Of course I wrote down Walt Disney and said that I admired him and all the rest. Anyways today she started the class by reading a short story about alittle boy named Walter Elias. It was about a Boy growing up on a farm with his family and how when he was about 10 years old he accidentally killed an Owl that he was trying to catch. The story went on to say that this boy grew up to be a great man that has brought joy to many people, and of course that boy was Walter Elias Disney. During the story she kept looking at me to see if I was catching on. At the end she said to the class that Walt Disney was one of her great admirers. She then told us a story about going to Disneyland the 2nd day it opened! Her Uncle worked at Disney's Burbank studios and went to the park with them. This is the best part: As her family was boarding the trolley thing that takes you down Main Street, Walt Disney himself came out of one of the offices above M.S. and greeted her Uncle and entire family saying he heard that they were there and wanted to meet them! I was psyched out to know that my teacher actually met Walt Disney! I practically bowed down and kissed her feet! lol. At the end of class today I ment to go up and talk to her about her experience but the video we were watching (about KoKo the Gorilla) went to long and the bell rang before it ended. But tomorrow I will make sure I talk to her about it and I will report back to you all about what she said. I think it's cool that she read how I liked Disney and decided to share both stories with my class. I just wanted to share this story with you all, its not every day you meet someone that has met Walt Disney! Has anyone else had a similar experience and wants to share?
Joe:)

That is so cool!!!! I got so excited just reading that!

I have a similar experience, even though I wished it involved Walt Disney.

My dad grew up in Los Angeles and has tons of stories about meeting famous people. Well, I was watching a documentary about the Rat Pack and about Dean Martin. My dad saw this and piped up about how Dean and his dad were really good friends and every once in a while he would come home from school to see Mr. Martin sitting in their living room just chatting away with his dad! It just goes to show you that these celebrities are humans too.. At least most of them are..... Michael Jackson, questionable.

I would have done just that! How cool is that?

I love to share little pieces of myself with my students to make a connection just like this. Last year one of my 8th graders asked me "Of all the people who have ever lived who would you most like to meet?" Without missing a beat I said Walt Disney. After that we had many conversations about Walt Disney and Walt Disney World. We would try to stump each other with Disney questions, it isn't science, but they loved to do research to find the answers. They learned a lot from looking for Disney trivia, they had to look at many different resources to come up with the answers.

I bet you are going to have a great semester in this class. Enjoy it, Joe.

Joe -

Your teacher sounds very special. There are many over time that I'm certain have stuck out over the rest because of the effort they made to connect with their students. Enjoy your class. It's an interesting course...one of my favorites.

That is so cool, Joe! I bet you will enjoy her class even more so now.

I have met many people who worked at the Disney Company during the early years and through the beginnings of Disneyland. It is fascinating to hear their stories of working with Walt. :)

Wow, that's incredible. I wish I could go back in time and meet Walt and just spend an afternoon chatting. My life would then be complete. :D

Joe,
That is simply amazing that your teacher decided to share such a personal story with the class. I would have also loved to have met him, as with most of us DC'ers. I imagine that you are going to have a wonderful semester in this class. Keep us posted on any more Walt trivia that you might find out about in the days to come.
