Birthday gift suggestions...

My DD's 7th birthday is coming soon and we've decided to have a birhtday party. Of course I am planning a disney theme :) Is there a correct way to include birthday gift suggestions in the invitaions? I would like to suggest Disney Dollars as an option since we have a trip coming up in November. What do you think? I don't want to offend anyone.

Thanks for all of your help.

I am not sure there is an easy way to do this. I have heard some friends talking about getting invitations that ask for money for a wedding gift or a specific gift for kids. None of them took it well, they were offended to be honest.

If it is family then you know which family members would be open to the suggestion. For friends, I say don't go there. Part of the fun of my DS going to a birthday party is picking out just the gift in the toy store.

Not quite what you asked for but here is a great game to play at parties and it's a definite hit.

1. At the start of the party each child get 50.00 of fake money in a bag. The bag is marked with 5-10 words that the kids can't say during the party. For example (boy, girl, dance, cake, candle).

2. The kids are each responsible for their own money. When they hear another kid using one of the taboo words, the kid that use the word has to pay them 2.00.

3. When the party is over have the kids turn them in for real disney dollars. (Do not tell them this ahead of time) Ten dollars equals one disney dollar and the child with the most money at the end of the game get an extra $5.00 in disney dollars as their prize for winning.

I like this because I use it instead of goodie bags, and the kids all love getting the disney dollars.

In response to your other question. I'm not sure. I was thinking about a dollar trees that is sometimes use at anniversaries. I know when I have my sons birthday most people call me to see what he'd like. I think it would be totally appropraite to suggest disney dollars at that point. I'm sure someone will come along with a very clever idea.

For family and close friends (and maybe the mothers that you are close to), I would explain the situation. They would probably be happy to comply. After all, buying something Disney or Disney Dollars is a no-brainer. For others though, I can't really think of a way of asking for a specific kind of present. Maybe the invitation could give a small hint. (Something like "My party is a Disney theme, because I'm going to WDW in November! - Yippee!) Maybe they'll catch on. Sorry not to be more help. BTW - good game, Priedel! I'd like an adult version with real cash! :laugh

I have to echo llama's thoguhts here. A Disney invitation and mentioning a Nov WDW trip will be enough for some mothers to get the hint. The rest well, you wold have to spell it out and I wouldn't risk offending them. Not worth it.

Paula - Cool game!

Yeah, I agree with Dana. I think it would be too "in their face" for some people, while others might not mind at all. Go with Dana's idea and then hopefully they'll clue in, if not, then it's fine.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions~Paula loved the game idea! I think I will just let the parents who ask what to give know that we are planning a disney trip in Nov and Disney Dollars would be a great gift.

Thanks again!
