My advice...definitely stay at a resort that you haven't been to before (look around and try and get a deal on either Animal Kingdom Lodge or Polynesian..that's what I'd "convince" my wife to do). If he plays golf, make sure you weave an 18-hole round of golf in. Once, I told my wife (girlfriend at the time) that we were going away and told her what types of clothing to pack (warm, cool, cold, etc..) and didn't tell her where we were going until we got to the airport. Since wives are better at packing, you could even do all the packing and then surprise him at the airport!

I think that maybe you should at least tell him when to take off so he can be all cleared up at work before you leave. Then just tell him that everything else is just a surprise. Pack his suitcase for him, I know I already do that for my husband anyway. I think that a trip to Disney is a great surprise. :D :D

What a great idea, hint hint....
If it were just me an Minnie, I think I would go for the Boardwalk or Animal Kingdom Lodge. The alure of the monorail isn't enough if the kids aren't with us, we just don't spend enough time in MK. But the Boardwalk would be perfect, there is a great night life, great restaurants and both EPCOT and MGM are within walking distance. As far as work goes, I think you have to let him know that something is coming up. Personally, it would drive me crazy if I just missed work for a week, and didn't know it was coming. As mentioned above, just let him know it is a trip, and how long you will be gone, and leave it at that. Oh, and since it is just the two of you, make sure that you go during a nice, quiet time.

surprise trip
I surprised my wife and, at the time 9 month old boy, with a 3 day trip to Disney. I created a Disney alphabet book from A to Z. I cut pictures out for each page, representing a Disney image. By the time she got to "P" with a picture of Mickey holding a suitcase, with the work PACK, she knew we were off to Disney. This was a Christmas morning gift, and we flew out on January 1st!
Though my book was created for a little boy and my wife, it was a great way to build up her excitement, while she was putting all the pieces together. It was almost as fun watching her expression, if not more, than the trip. One quick bit of hotel info...buy an annual pass, and you will save the difference on the hotel room the first trip, we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge for $124.00 anight! Have Fun! Den:) :) :) |
