Fishing At Disney?

I wasn't sure were to post this so here we go. We will be going to WDW in Nov and there's one person in our party who loves fishing. Has anyone ever experienced any of the fishing offered at WDW? If so what did you think?:D Tina

Fishing At Disney?

Tina,

Three of us went on a fishing trip at WDW last Oct. We left from the dock at the Poly just before sunrise. We fished for largemouth bass with minnows and it was a lot of fun. We caught 6 or 8 fish in the 1 1/2 lb to 2 1/2 lb range. Nothing very big, but still fun. It is all catch and release, which I believe is the case everywhere at WDW. The guide was very nice and a wealth of Disney info, which is always a treat. We fished around the GF, the canal over the road by the Contemporary and in front of the Wilderness Lodge. Even if we hadn't caught a fish, it would have been worth the price to see the sunrise while we were out on the lake. Also, the view of the resorts and the Magic Kingdom from the water was spectacular.
If you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
I would definately do it again.

We went fishing last May. We were supposed to go the last time we were at WDW but fog prevented us from going out.
I am not a fishing expert. But my husband enjoys fishing so we went. It was very enjoyable and relaxing.
If you have a little one, chances are they will be the first person to catch a fish:D
I would recomend going at the earliest time( 7 or 7:30).
It is very peacefull and great views.
If you go later the water mice are out and I think it ruins the tranquility of the trip.
We had a great time and would love to go again.

Re: Fishing At Disney?

The lakes at WDW are well-stocked with fish, and it's the rare angler who doesn't catch something. Here's a link to an article about fishing at Walt Disney World that you'll find informative.

Rafikiman & I went this past Oct. We left from the dock at the boardwalk & fished in the lake at EPCOT. It was fantastic! We went at the earliest time they had & it was so peaceful & relaxing. Our guide (I'll see if Rafikiman can remember his name) was wonderful. And just being in the middle of EPCOT with no one else around as the sun came up & then when they started the music in the park was wonderful. We would HIGHLY recommend it.

We love the BoardWalk fishing excursion! Pick the first of the day, and you will be treated to an uncrowded Epcot World Showcase. Our favorite guide is Terry.

Have fun!

Re: Fishing At Disney?

The Epcot trip sounds great... but the Disney books sometimes suggest that fishing is an activity at Port Orleans Riverside (yep, fishing is offered --- it's catching that is impossible!). I would steer you elsewhere! We have spent hours and hours at the Riverside dock over several trips and have yet to get a nibble!

Re: Fishing At Disney?

Thanks for the tip MissDisney. I was going to send him over there, if he finds Disney a bit to much for the adult in him. If he upsets me I may send him there anyways. My sister is bringing her boyfriend, and he's not so sure this sounds like fun. Some adults are to grown up to enjoy WDW. Its the only place Ive found that really makes me feel like a child(in a good way). Thanks Tina

Re: Fishing At Disney?

Yeah, Tina... if the "adult in him begins" to bug you too much, you can say, "Hey, my Disney experts tell me that the fishing at Riverside is REALLY GOOD! Twelve-inch fighting bass and fat rainbow trout practically bait their own hooks over there! You should go today and try it! We will see you around dinnertime!"

Re: Fishing At Disney?

Thanks MissDisney, I couldn't have said it better. I'm hoping he loves it. I took my sister last year and she's about as adult as they come. I like to keep the people around me as light hearted as possible(someone has to). She loved it and didn't mind me making a spectacle of myself. Tina
