Does anyone remember WDW 5 years ago? :-)

I was going through photos recently and I came across some pictures from WDW's 25th anniversary celebration... the year they made the castle into a huge gloppy PINK birthday cake. Anyone remember that?
I thought it looked better in person than in photos. It is definitely one of those "What were they THINKING?" moments. But I did get to visit it twice that year and got to see them begin to dismantle it the following year.
Turns out in retrospect, that my very first ever trip to WDW was during their 20th Anniversay season, and they gave out a badge to first time visitors (which for posterity sake I hope I still have somewhere). And for the 25th, aside from my picture in front of the frosted cake pink castle (uggh - the description is sounding even worse) - I also got a commemorative poster that I kept somewhere.
After they finish the 100 year celebration - I've got a feeling they are going to start bombarding us with the WDW 30th Anniversary celebration -which if I recall correctly, should be THIS October?

Yes, your right, WDW would be 30 years old. I hope they are planning something for it. We will be there in May and I have an uncanny ability to miss out on any special event since I saw Mickey's Bicentennial Celebration in 1976.

I was there for the 15th, 20th, & 25th celebrations. And now we were just there the first week of June for Walt's 100th birthday. Most of the items I saw celebrated Walt's birthday. However, I did see a couple of tops at various shops with WDW's 30th anniversary printed on it. May be they're hints of things to come? :)

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but I am pretty sure that WDW opened in October, 1971. The 30th anniversary was last October, and correlated with the opening of the 100 Years of Magic. I purchased several pins last October, and they all featured 30th anniversary sayings for the Polynesian, Magic Kingdom, WDW and the Main Street Bakery. I would guess that many of the items seen around the parks are left over from last year. Four more years until the next celebration.

Whoops! So I guess the 100 year thing was more important in the long run. Strange they didn't make a bigger deal of the 30 year thing.
Oh, well. Whatever they have in mind for the future, I am sure I'll enjoy it!

I remember being there for the 25th anniversay and getting a really good picture in front of the castle all done up like birthday cake. That picture went right into by daughters photo album since it was her first time there (she was two at the time). It will be great when she gets older because she will be able to show it to her children one day. I also remember getting a pin of some sort that had the year you first visited on it, does anyone else remeber this?:)
