Thought you guys may enjoy hearing my last minute idea this past Christmas as to how to propose to my girlfriend.
She and I had been looking at rings since about August of last year (2003), and like any woman (*ducks the slaps* )she changed her mind several times as to what she liked, platinum, then white gold, emerald cut, then marquis, etc etc.. Finally she decided on a ring style she liked, but it was kind of different, a marquis stone with horizontal baguetts. Well, after a lot of searching I found a ring, well actually two rings. A marquis solitare and a "wrap" that had three vertical rows of horizontal baguetts that would wrap around the solitare. I had the jewler fuse the two rings together so that it appeared as one ring, but with a wider band. I purchased the ring in November but I had kept her believeing that I was not quite ready to get married yet.So, then I had this very expensive ring (for my budget ) hidden away and I had no idea how to make the proposal "special." Well, about one week before Christmas day I was walking in one of the local malls when I passed the Disney Store. They had a huge sign up that said something like "Large Stuffed Disney Characters 1/2 off." So that got me to thinking. My girlfriend loves Eeyore and the Pooh characters, but especially Eeyore. So I went inside the store and started looking at their stuffed characters. Like the sign said, they were all 1/2 off. I started looking for Pooh charactes and all they had were Pooh, Tigger, Pigglet, and Eeyore. I decided to buy the four of them, but I wished they would have had Rabbit, Owl, and the other characters. But they had Eeyore, that is what mattered . The animals were even sized correctly. Pigglet was about 1 foot tall. Tigger was about 1 and 1/2 feet tall, Pooh and Eeyore were both about 2 feet tall. They all had a kind of relaxed pose with their arms hanging down by their sides, except for Eeyore. Eeyore's arms were extended in front of him, resulting in what would be his hands being about six inches apart. That was perfect for my idea. I took a length of twine and dyed it black with a sharpee pen. I took the twine and tied an end to each of Eeyore's hands, making sure the twine pulled his hands in until they were about two inches apart. Then I closed the ringbox around the black twine. After this, I stepped back and it looked just like Eeyore was holding a black ringbox in his hands. I then placed each stuffed animal in a cardboard box and wrapped them seperately. Christmas Eve we had lunch at her mother's house out of town, then I went on to my sister's house back home (3.5 hours away) and my girlfriend went back home because she had to work Christmas Day. Christmas day I leave my sister's house around 1:00pm and get back home around 5:00. My girlfriend and I exchange gifts around 5:30. She gave me a couple of gifts and I gave her two small gifts first. A tigger pez dispenser, and and tiny Eeyore snowglow that has Eeyore facing away from you and looking back at you over his shoulder with those big sad eyes. It had 2003 around the bottom of the snowglob. Then I give her the first box... Pigglett, she laughed and said she thought he was cute. Then I gave the second box, Tigger, she laughed again, played with his coiled up tail, and placed him next to Pigglett, then I gave her the thrid box, Pooh, again she laughed and said "I think I see a pattern here." I gave her the fourth box, Eeyore, and knelt down in front of the couch where she was sitting and acted like I was picking up some of the torn wrapping paper. She opened the wrapping and box, then saw Eeyore and lauged again. She had not seen what he was holding yet because his head waskind of bent down over his hands. Then she pulled Eeyore out of the box, and once his feet slipped free, she kind of paused. She asked "what is that?" and opened up the ring box. I said "I think Eeyore is proposing to you." She was quiet for a few seconds as she looked at the ring, then she said "But I want you to propose to me." Since I had tactically knelt down in front of her before she opened the box, I said "Sorry Eeyore, Christy, Will you marry me?" and of course she said "yes." We looked into having a Disney wedding, but it was going to be too expensive for our wedding budget, so we got married on April 10 in Gatlinburg, TN. We had mix of family and friends totaling about 21 guests. The wedding was held at http://www.chapelatthepark.com and it was very beautiful. The website photos don't do it justice. And finally, thanks to some very generous cash gifts from our families and some friends, we will be having our honeymoon at Disney for seven nights during the second week of May. ![]()
