Two questions about forums

My first question is if the Disneyland Resort can have its own section, rather than being under the "other" section. Since it IS the original, and especially with the 50th anniversary coming up, I don't think it's getting the recognition it deserves being under the "other" section. Is this a possibility?

My second question is if cast members and their families can have a forum? Most cast member questions and comments seem to wind up on the college program forum, even if the cast member isn't in the college program. Is this too a possibility?

Thanks for listening!

Re: Two questions about forums

I have a question. I'm a relative newcomer to DC. How about a list or thread of all the abbrevations. it took me the longest time trying to figure out what some of them mean. For example "POFQ" I knew that the PO stood for Port Orleans But had the toughest time figuring out FQ stands for French Quarter (that is right... right??) or maybe I'm just thick headed!

well the abbreviation should be a sticky on the biggest sections or something...Only reason i knew them was the time I spent in usenet on R@DP...

I agree Sharon. Hopefully Mickey will pick up this message and create a new thread. Perhaps you could send him a private message to ensure he sees your idea.

Re: Two questions about forums

The thing is that the California parks aren't as extensive. Because WDW is so vast, there are many more things to talk about. I don't think that DL is getting disrespected at all.

Besides, don't most of us use the "New Posts" serach feature anyway? Does it really matter how the forums are listed?

Re: Two questions about forums

Matt - no, I don't use the new posts feature, but that's not related to my request.

I just don't feel that the Disneyland Resort is an "other." I think its a place all it's own and shouldn't be grouped with other locations.

I mean, the cruise line and the vacation club have their own sections.

I am not one to support the DRL vs WDW issues - but Southern California is much more vast than Orlando in it's attractions. Disney itself in Florida is larger per square footage, has many more hotels (DLR has 3, WDW has a dozen or so), has 2 more parks (DLR has 2, WDW has 4), but did you know that Disneyland (not including CA Adventure) has many more rides than the Magic Kingdom? 15 more rides to be exact. I disagree that there's not as much to talk about. Plus with the 50th Anniversary next year, I do think it deserves to be moved from the "other" section.

For instance, here is the setup for the WDW section, revised to fit a potentional DLR section:

DLR Theme Parks

DLR Resorts

DLR Restaurants

(the above 3 are already existing forums in the "other" section)

Other Southern California areas (there is SO MUCH here...Downtown Disney, Angels/Mighty Ducks (a Disney team) games, Seaworld, Legoland, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, everything that is Hollywood, local mountains/skiing/other recreation, Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, etc etc etc.)

Southern California Transportation

DLR Budget Tips

Southern California Hotels and Attractions (I see this as similar to the Other So Cal areas above)

Now, I'm not saying that it needs to be be that extensive, but there is definitely a lot of room for discussion. Perhaps that section can be revised to include just the Disneyland Resort and then another section can be created for Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Tokyo entitled "International Disney."

The other request for a Cast Member forum I do think is well needed since those questions seem to fall all over the place.

Re: Two questions about forums

This may be true, but the majority of the people that come on here are interested in WDW and the DL resort, which I am sure is great, isn't asked about as much on here. Maybe that is why it is listed as "other". This is just an observation. Why not put it to a vote and see how many other people are interested in a forum just for that? How else can mickey see what the needs of the boards are. One person asking for something won't be enough for him to create another forum. Put a poll to the boards for him to see.

Re: Two questions about forums

I have to agree with Disneywife. There should be a better break out for DL. We have been to both, but WDW is the primary place we go. While WDW is the larger attraction, and most people do go to and talk about WDW, DL is the original, and if not for DL, there would not be a WDW. I think that we also must keep in mind and always remember, that it was all started by a mouse!!!!

p.s. Disneywife, I know that DH works for the big cheese.... if he has any pull, have him drop a bug in someones ear to bring back the Disneyana convention.... DW and I miss it terribly!!!

Re: Two questions about forums

Ummm - aren't we kind of talking semantics here? If the heading "Other Disney Locations" was changed to "Disneyland, California" wouldn't the forum subjects still be the same? For instance, "Budget Tips" is budget tips, whether its WDW or DL and with all due respect, this is a Disney site, so I don't think that other Southern California tourist sites(although many are GREAT) really come into the equasion. I think Dana is right. Create a poll and Mickey can measure the response.

Re: Two questions about forums

I think creating a poll would make it a bigger issue than it is, and I certainly don't want that. Besides, DLR would most likely loose that poll (tho I don't know why it would matter so much to someone for DLR to not have an individual section) since most people do come here for WDW advice. However, many do come for DLR advice and I wish DC would/could put DLR in the spotlight more in that respect. It's just my opinion, and if Mickey agrees with me, he'll make the adjustments.

timsha - what's the Disneyana convention - Disney collectables? Was that sponsored by Disney? I don't know if he knows anything about it (he's only been with Disney a little over a year) but I'll ask him!

No, I think you misunderstand me. I wasn't trying to encourage making an issue. I just thought your point would be better made if a poll was involved. This isn't an issue for anyone one here. You made a statement about the DL park and and opened it for discussion. I just made a comment that mostly everyone on here plans for WDW. I thought a poll would help see what everyone else thought...that was it.

Re: Two questions about forums

I don't really want to get involved in this, and am actually sorry I am sorry I "walked" in on this, but I agree with us needing a list of abreviations. It makes it hard for "newbies" to use the site. I would be game for trying to create the list.
