Just a helpful reminder to folks that have been here a while and a suggestion to the newbies.

Before posting a response to a thread, at the very least, check the date of it. It's amazing how many things can change in a relatively short period of time.

Also, make an effort to read the whole thread before replying, or at least read the last 4 or 5 posts. (I'm guilty of this myself. )

By doing this, it will help to ensure that threads will evolve instead of having to backtrack all the time.

Can you give us a few examples of what is being referred to? I sometimes bring my old games back to play again and they go back to 2002.

I think games are different.

I have seen some confusion over old threads that have been brought back up after not being posted to for a year or more. If the thread is more than 6 months to a year old I think it's ok to start a new one. Like Matt said, sometimes things change and a new updated thread is in order.

I'm not suggesting that anyone should avoid posting a reponse to an old thread. In fact, just the opposite. Reviving old threads can be very helpful.

However, responding to the first post in a thread that's 14 months old as opposed to the last can make things confusing.

For example, this morning, I noticed that there was a thread pretty much bashing the Pop Century. It began in April of 2004. Someone recently returned and had a great trip and posted a reponse to that effect. Immediately afterwards, someone else posted a note saying, in effect, "you should report these problems ASAP."

The point is, we should all be a tiny bit more hesitant to post until we're sure that our response is relevant to the current vein of the thread.

Also, as DT suggested, sometimes a new thread is in order. You can always reference the old thread with a link.

FWIW and IMO, game threads are ageless.

I think we all just had a scare about a discount code that was over a year old. Somebody had bumped it up a few weeks ago. Those of us who pretend to have a brain actually thought we had missed something, but then saw the date. Hence saving ourself an embarassing post.

Gotcha. When you don't see what is spurring a topic such as this one it makes you wonder.

That's the one that got me too. I also look at the dates a little closer now.

huh?

I'm not sure what you mean, but I don't think that there's a good way to "administer" this issue. I think it's just something we should all pay attention to as a good practice.

Yes, I remember that one. I was one of the ones thinking I had a brain and responded thinking I had missed something.
