Why go invisible?

While we're talking about user options I have a question. The invisible mode isn't something I use but I know some people do, I'm just curious why members go invisible. Anyone care to share?

OK, I do it, when I am upset with MB.

Like, I post an answer to someone's question and they totally overlook it and then someone else posts essentially the same answer and the person who asked goes gaga over that wonderful answer. Childish I know, but that's how I disappear because I seem to be thin air around here anyway...

I am always invisible. Only because I used to have someone ask me frequently "Are you PMing this or that person... what did they say?" I've also been asked a few times why I was reading or "reserecting" threads that they must have seen me reading while "viewing who's online." I don't know, I guess it probably doesn't really matter any more 'especially 'cause I seem to pop on an off in such short spurts. But anyway, that's why.

Okay, I almost just copied and pasted dopey's answer and re-posted it to be funny, but I thought that might be a little inappropriate because i love her so much.

I don't go invisible here, but I do on myspace. I usually do so because I don't need people to know my internet habits--when i'm on, when i'm off, etc.

Ok, now I really get it. If someone had asked me questions like that I think I might go invisible too. I guess I just looked at it as no one being able to see you logged on, not what you're doing while you're here.

Yeah, I really do love and trust everyone here & really could care less if you know I am logged on or not. Obviously I am if you see me reply to something

but for me it's more of a "Nonya' business" typa' thing.

That's how I always looked at it, I can see ya posting so I know you're here but I understand if people were asking who you were PMing and why you were looking at certain threads. That would really bug me and make me go invisible too.

wow! that would bug me too! If people asked me what I was doing it'd freak me out!
I only found out about it recently (i know..i know..i am slow)..I rarely do it though...it's too time consuming.

Okay, I don't understand--you go to a party (i.e., Disney site full of friends and others) and then become invisible? I guess we have different ideas about things, but what's the difference between invisible and 'lurking'?

You can set your account so other members can't see you're here. If you're lurking but not invisible people can see you're here by looking at Who's Online or the front page.
