Any advice on which Universal Resort Hotel to choose for a few days before hitting Disney at end of Feb 2003

We stayed at the Hard Rock in July. It was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. Each room has a stereo, and they give you a Hard Rock CD at check-in. They have down pillows, comfortable beds, and an excellent decor. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and the staff is very friendly. Plus, you'll have a great time checking out all the memorabilia. It's set up as if it's the mansion of a California rock star, right down to the saxophone chandelier. The pool is amazing, with a zero-entry beach area, a water slide that belongs in a water park, and lots of private little nooks and crannies(it's irregularly shaped). As you can tell, I'd highly recommend it. Have a great trip.:D :)

We visited Universal and stayed at the Hard Rock in October 2001. Big mistake. Our least favorite vacation in a long time. Attitude-city from all the employees. We will never make this mistake again ... when in Orlando: Disney is the only place to stay for us.
Universal's employees are not educated about their theme parks. No one knew where anything was.
The Hard Rock ... needs better house keeping. Every morning we would find our bathroom trash in the hallway outside our room. Obviously someone missed the trash can when emptying out the smaller bathroom trash can. Sloppy and rude are the only words to describe the hotel's staff.
For as much as they charge, you would think the HRH would have been nicer. (And this was just weeks after 9-11 ... totally not appreciative of New York visitors. They're exact words: "We aren't hurting from the terrorist attacks." Could have fooled me.)
Giving away a free CD when you check in does not make a nice hotel.

WOW! I am shocked, you are the first I have heard put this hotel down in the slightest. However, you seem to have been dissatissfied in many areas.

I was planning on staying here in the future. :nervous Perhaps more investigation is necessary. I saw this hotel on tv not too long ago and the special features sound very intriging. Has anyone else had a bad experience?

YensidFan,
Maybe your experience was because of the newness of the hotel. We were treated wonderfully by everyone in July, and they all seemed quite knowledgable about the hotel and the parks. They even went the extra mile, when, during a rainstorm that kept everyone in the hotel, they set up a big screen in the lobby and showed Shrek. I go on vacations(Disney and non) at least twice a year, and can only speak of HRH in glowing terms. Sorry you had a different experience. As far as cleanliness, DW is a clean freak, and even she was impressed with the spotlessness of the place. Did you say anything to the management about your problems? I'm sure they would have tried to make you happy. It's just so shocking to me that we had such different memories of the same hotel. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!:dazed
