The Mummy

I have 2 questions about this ride. First, what are the height restrictions for it? Second, can anyone tell me about it. My DS is a coaster junkie who will ride any coaster he is tall enough to ride. He is 6 and a half years old. I am trying to decide if it is ok to let him ride. The last trip that we were at Universal, the Mummy opened 2 weeks after we left for home, so I have not had a chance to ride it. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: The Mummy

Sorry, I don't know the height restrictions. But I can give you a chicken's review. :) I HATE roller coasters... I don't know why I let myself get talked into doing this one, but I did. I about had a heart attack. I remember it being very loud and dark (before I closed my eyes and started screaming my head off)... the mummies were pretty scary looking and there's some fire and I think some of those beetles. If your DS isn't scared of any of that, I'd guess that he would love it. It's a pretty good coaster... which is why it scared me out of my mind. :)

Re: The Mummy

Thanks. Anyone else able to add something about the ride. I have watched the video clip that Universal has, but you really can't tell much from watching it.

Re: The Mummy

I have read it is quite intense both coaster wise and theming. Especially for a young person. Unfortunately, I have not been on it though.

Re: The Mummy

I have ridden it - and let me tell you - it's an EXPERIENCE! It's the most intense ride I've ever been on. Waaaay more than a rollercoaster. At one point your head is snapped back so intensely I thought I had whiplash. You aren't even allowed to wear glasses on it. I certainly wouldn't take a kid under the age of 10. I didn't notice what the height restrictions were, but there definitely must be one.

Re: The Mummy

I think its a great ride. It's not really much of a coaster tho, no more than space mountain is a coaster. It has a 48" height requirement. Its like an intense haunted house ride combined with space mountain.

If you love scary movies I think you would like this ride even if you didnt like roller coasters. If you hate scary movies and rollercoasters, then its a no brainer LOL.

I meant the starts and stops in the dark may be a bit too intense for a six year old. Not really the fact that it is a coaster. I was not specific enough, but I felt Llama covered what I meant pretty well.

Re: The Mummy

We rode it several times last summer. It's more than a roller coaster: it does many different things. It spins, goes backwards and forwards, has only a short drop though. It's bigger on special effects than actual roller coaster action. There are big mummys that pop up, flames, a huge Mummy face...lots of very different things. My 9yr old rode it, but he hates anything with a drop in it, so that is the only reason he didn't want to go back. Says it bothers his stomach. But he loved all the "scary" parts.

The ride attendants really get into character there...more than any other ride I've seen at Uni. You'd have to gauge your own DS's tolerance of scary stuff, because that's what the ride is really about.

Re: The Mummy

We rode it last summer and loved it!! The theming is very realistic and a little scary but my DD(11) who up until 2 years ago would not even ride HM loved the mummy!! She also loves rollercoasters and is game to try ANY type of coaster since she was little!! If he is not really very scared about "haunted house type" rides and is 48 inches I think he should be ok!!

Re: The Mummy

It is not much of a rollercoaster, it is all in your head because it is dark. It was ok, and it might not be great for younger ones. My DD didn't go.

Re: The Mummy

I guess DH will have to ride it first to make sure it is ok for him to ride. He is a coater junkie like his parents. The only haunted house he's been to is the one put on by the middle school students at the school I teach at. Needless to say it really is not that scary. He does like watching the Goosebump movies with his sister, but I hopefully I will know whether or not I will let him ride it after I experience it. Thanks everyone for telling me about the ride. I really had no idea what to expect. I know I was really disappointed in Feb. 04 when it was not yet opened during our trip. I am looking forward to riding it.
