Nickelodeon Studios Closed!!

I don't know how this escaped my attention before now! My DS will be crushed. It seems April 30th was the last day for Nick at USF. The Slime geyser is gone and they've closed the doors of Nick Studios. Now they won't have anything in there but offices.

I've never been, but I think that's the one thing my kids would of enjoyed more than anything else.

Yea... I knew this was happening. Hey, that's some valuable property for IoA or Universal to expand on.

I knew a few months back when they tore down the Slime geyser fountain (I even mentioned it on a hread that they were leaving). Nickolodeon's contract renewal came up and I think Paramont got some exclusives with them. Paramount parks are now doing 3D spongebob, a Nick Parade, and the kiddie lands are being rethemed to all Nick characters - not to mention several Nick themed rides already in the parks. Jimmy Neutron ride sould stay in Universal for a bit, but I imagine that is the last of the Nick stuff we will see in Universal for some time. These parks shuffle around owners so often, it's a wonder they work out any contracts with icon characters... but that is why some things stay while others must go.

Back in May it was announced. Most news spots reported something to this effect:

Nickelodeon Leaving TV Production Unit In Orlando
ORLANDO (AP) The slime has stopped at Universal Orlando. Cable network Nickelodeon has plans to abandon a television production operation at the theme park resort at the end of June. At the same time, the theme park resort has shuttered the Nickelodeon Game Lab, an attraction based on a former Nickelodeon game show that ended with a contestant on the receiving end of a bucket of green goo. Less than 10 people will be laid off from the Nickelodeon production unit, which has been at Universal Studios since the theme park opened in 1990. Nickelodeon culled an audience for its shows from the millions of tourists who visit Universal's two theme parks each year, but Nickelodeon has had a diminishing presence at the resort in recent years.

But it is no more, what will universal do with all this new land - it is a gold mine of possibilities, even the old geyser area is big enough for a decent expansion.

I'm so glad we got to see and do most everything there. Our family has had some wonderful trip memories in the Nick Studios over the years (all my kids have been big fans of Nick).

Why, I've caught rubber chickens in my pants, DH has caught hoops on his head... my children have even tasted the slime from the Nick labs.
But it was always our dream that some day...one of our very own children would be picked to be.......SLIMED!! *sniff*

Now that dream will never come true.

I guess we'll just have to make do with pouring something disgusting on them at home.
