Univeral for smaller kids

We are looking into going to WDW for the 4th year in a row.

We have become real Disney Hounds!!:D

One thing we have learned is to try and show the kids something different every year. Last year we went to Seaworld. While it is not run as well as Disney, we enjoyed it since it does have a different pace.

This fall we were thinking Universal IOA. Is this a good 1 day adventure for an 8 and 7 year old? My 7 year old really doesn't like dark, gloomy or 3D rides.

Any thoughts?

A few people have posted that it is not quite Disney. How?

Alternative suggestions?:dazed

Thanks!

We went last summer with a 7 and 10 year old. They loved it. Seuss Landing is totally for kids. Also, there will soon be a Jimmy Neutron ride at US. And, my 7 year old loved the coasters. Another great thing for kids there is a talking fountain that interacts with you and tries to squirt you. There are quite a few things there that are not necessarily designed for young kids, but there's certainly enough to keep everyone happy. I'm not sure what the difference is, but, as much as I love it there, it just doesn't have that "magic" that pervades WDW. I wish I could tell you why. Even so, we make sure to spend at least 2 days there every time we go to WDW.

IOA is a very good park for kids. Like Jeff mentioned, they have Seuss Landing, which looks exactly like WhoVille from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Plus, they have toon lagoon, which is actually my favorite Island and I'm 15 ;) . It has great water rides that your kids will really enjoy. Plus the thrill rides for the adults.

Thanks David and Wdwjeff!

I have actually just read the Universal with kids book and it sounded to me that IOA is better suited for my kids given their age rather than Studios.

Based on your references I assume that you agree.

We are always trying to keep the vacation "fresh" since we have gone so often (this will be year 4 in a row if we make it).

Thanks

We are going in August. The first two days will be spent at Universal Orlando at the Royal Pacific. My DS's will be 5 and 7 then. My oldest is already pouring over the guide book and the website. Everyday it's something differnet: "Dad lets go on the Hulk!" Or " Dad I'm not going to the makeup show, Oh OK I'll go but you have to go on the Hulk with me 'cause mom won't!" "Dad I want to see Shreck!" and so on. And both have their fingers crossed that the Jimmy Nuetron ride will open up! So I'm sure it will be a success! I of course will be chomping at teh bit to get to the Poly and WDW!:)

We were just at Universal/IOA in February. I think that Universal is great for younger kids and IOA is great for older kids. Tweens will like both parks. My children are 11 and 10. My 11 year old daughter loves IOA and was bored with Universal. My 10 year old son loved both places but really enjoyed Universal. (MIB, Terminator 3-D) Go for it!
