What is taking the place of the King Kong ride at Universal?

I may be alone in saying this, but I actually liked the Kongfrontation ride and was disappointed when I heard they were replacing it!

Jmouse, do you know what type of ride the Return of the Mummy supposed to be?

oh my gosh, I did not know they were doing away with Kongfrontation! I loved that ride. Too bad :(
I am really going to miss it!! I am not that big of a fan of the Mummy movies (though I do like Brendan Frasier)

Is Kong already closed?

Neen, I think it's already gone...

I just looked on the Universal website and there is no mention of it anywhere. Were we the only ones that liked it? Why do you think they are doing away with the ride, to make room for the "newer" Universal themed rides? I guess for the same reason Disney does away with their rides when they are really dated....

Kim ~ We must be way in tune!! I was just on the Universal Website also;) and I noticed that it is gone!!! What a bummer!!
The ride was kind of special to me, growing up in Queens, riding the subway, when you rode that ride it was almost like being home

Also many years ago when they filmed the king kong movie in NY, my grandmother worked for the State in the World Trade Center and we visited her at work while they were filming the scene where King Kong falls off the WTC. It was so so so cool, as he fell right past her window.
I am a little sad right now...The WTC is gone (still makes me so sad!) and no more Kong ride. I guess you and I were the only ones that liked it !!!!!

I know...it's so sad! You hit the nail on the head...it was like being on the NY subway when riding Kongfrontation...although they have cleaned up the grafitti a bit...;) I ride the subway every day...HATE IT!!! Ughhhh.....

That is so cool that you were able to see the filming of the movie in NYC at the World Trade Center. Believe it or not, I was only in the WTC ONE TIME a few years ago for a luncheon at the restaurant that used to be on the top floor...that was it! I was in Manhattan that day and 8 months pregnant and had to walk TO QUEENS!!! It was a horrible experience....the worst day ever...

Anyway, RIP, Kongfrontation!!! You will be missed...LOL:D

The last time we were in NYC, was Thanksgiving 2000 (for Macy Day Parade) and I have the coolest pic of the WTC. On 9/11 my son (then 13) was sitting on my bed crying looking at the pics we took of WTC. I know there are tons of these stories, but I have 3 relatives that worked either in the 2 twrs or 1 of the smaller ones, and they were not there for some weird reason, liked missed a taxi, overslept, and had to go to a school conference.
I am glad that you are OK, though that must have been some walk at 8 months pregnant. I was only 6 months pregnant then, and I don't think I would have been able to do it.

You're right RIP Kongfrontation ~ Kim and Nina will miss you!!!

I LOVED Kongfrontation too. This was a classic ! The ride seems to be contained in a pretty small area..but maybe thats just what we see. If they open it up maybe it will make room for a larger Mummy attraction. Another sad day for us theme park lovers. I'm pretty sure we rode it May 2002..I guess for the last time. Thankfully we have so many great things still to do !!!

The atmosphere in Kong was so cool! I can remember when it first opened being in these long long lines but not really caring because there was so much to look at! We were there in Aug. of 2002 and went through Kong for the last time. There was almost no line, but DGD loved it. I guess they are replacing it because interest has dwindled and kids all know about the Mummy but maybe not Kong. Regardless it is sad.
