Wheres the beach

Hey everyone...going back to WDW in Oct 2009. Way too long away, but at least we are going.

My DH would like to know where the closest beach is located. We will be staying at least 7 days, maybe 10, depending on school. So, we would like to know the best and or closest place to take the kids to the beach.

BTW, we will be staying offsite at Windsor Hills.

Thanks!
Lisa

Re: Wheres the beach

I never leave WDW propert except for one trip to SW a few years ago, so I am not sure which beach is closer....hang in there. Someone will see this thread and give you the right answer.

Re: Wheres the beach

We went to Clearwater last year and it was about 1.5-2 hours away from Disney. We really enjoyed it and picked that area because we wanted to see the Gulf. If you were looking for something a little closer, Daytona Beach shouldn't be to far away, maybe a hour or so. Whatever you choose, I am sure you will enjoy it!

Re: Wheres the beach

Thanks for your help! We really enoyed the drive to Kennedy Space Center, so 1-2 hours away would not be too bad.
My in laws used to have a place in Ft Myers, so there were plenty of places there, but we don't know much right outside of Disney.

Thanks!

Re: Wheres the beach

There are a bunch of beaches on I 95 near the Daytona Beach exit. We always stop at one, but I can't remember which one it is. But they are always fun f rthe kids

Re: Wheres the beach

This doesn't pertain to a beach, but I've stayed off site and on site at WDW. I would definitely recommend staying on site if possible. There are lots of extra perks for staying in the resorts, greatest of which is access to the dining plan.

I do agree with Cavey on this one. We have done both and I don't think we will stay offsite again unless we absolutely have to. The perks are great, plus if you can get free dining, it's even better.

Re: Wheres the beach

If you feel like a tiny bit more time in teh car, the St. Pete beaches near Tampa are wonderful, and full of shells.
