Getting to Kennedy Space Center

Does anyone know if there is any sort of public transportation or anything of that nature to get from WDW to Kennedy Space Center? We are not planning on renting a car as DH really prefers not to drive when he is on vacation. (especially since we don't know our way around at all outside of WDW.) Would a taxi be economically feasible? Or could it be, like it is here in Maine, "You can't get theya from heya".

It would be much more economical to rent a car for the day and drive yourself. You can pick up a rental car right at Disney World and return it the next morning.

ya know you might try mears transportation and see if they do shuttles out there, or try a towncar service and see what they charge. its about a 45 min trip. One other thing to look into might be the space center themselves, I know I've seen busses up here on occasion that say space tours or something like that maybe they send busses up on the weekends? as for how to get there I can only give rough directions as I haven't gotten out there yet. so I won't give any at all unless I'm 100% sure of them.

Id think Twice About Spaceport USA

Unfortunately, I found the space center "Spaceport USA" to be somewhat trite, a tourist trap and expensive. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. I do recommend the Astronaut Hall of Fame, which is located just west of Spaceport USA.

Yeah, I gotta say that Cap Canaveral is fairly lame!!! The only reason that I would go is if you have never been!!! I cannot remember what transportation company it was (either Quicksilver or Tropical) that had a rate of $90 dollars to get there. It would definetly be cheaper to rent a car. It is also very easy to navigate Florida! From WDW you would just take I-4 back to I-95. I am sure there is tonz of signs.

My DS and I went 8 (gosh, has it been that long?) years ago to see a friend launch on the space shuttle. That is the most awesome experience! If you have the flexibility to apply for tickets when the shuttles start launching again, then by all means go!

We live near space center houston, and compared the spaceport to there. We did not go to the Astronaut Museum, but will on our next trip to the cape.

Also, a quick note. There is nothing, and I mean nothing between Orlando and the Cape. It is not a long trip, but when you are starving and are looking for a McDonalds and cannot find one, you appreciate the info of "no food for you!"

you could go this route however that is a very long roundabout way to get there. I would recomend taking I-4 to the beeline (i-528) to I-95. I-4 will get you there however you have to go all the way up to Daytona and then turn south (after dealing with all the road construction) 528 is a straight shot from Orlando to Cape canaveral however its a toll road. I've never been to cape canaverial before so you may not need to get on I-95.

Just minimize your time on A1A. That is a very slow road.

We went to see Cape Canaveral 4-5 years ago and It was phenominal - Yes its expensive and parts of the tour were very cheesy-tourist stuff - but just to see the place - the incredible size of the shuttle hangars (is that what they are called?) it was worth the trip.

My only advice would be to stay away from the bus tours if you have young children in tow. On our bus was a poor family with a two year old that literally screamed for the entire ride. The family did everything they could to get off the bus, but the security restrictions made it impossible for them to leave the bus for the entire tour.

One really unexpected bonus for us was all the wildlife we saw on the tour. Alligators, bald eagles, and even a bobcat were sighted along the way.
