Been to Discovery Cove?

Has anyone been to Discovery Cove to swim in the reefs and with the dolphins? It seems horrifically expensive, especialy since they say on the website that there are no refunds for bad weather, etc. We decided to go ahead and set up a visit, but the week we are there in April, reservations are N/A. Is it worth pursuing a loophole to get into that park?

I would sure be interested in reading what anyone has to say about Discovery Cove. It really sounds like something I would enjoy doing if I could actually swim with the dolphins. I can remember in the Bahamas when I was only able to stand in the water with them and pet them with one hand only...the other hand had to be behind our backs. I felt that "that" dolphin experience was definately too much money for what I got out of it.

You are able to "swim" with the dolphins ... but its really controlled . You get in the water with them and do the touch thing ... then you are invited to hitch a ride with a dolphin - you hold onto the fin and your dolphin will take you for a little ride around the cove.
Its very cool stuff actually. I grew up watching "Flipper" and pretty much ANYTHING Dolphin related and I am hooked.

In addition to the Dolphins, there is some pretty good snorkelling at Dolphin Cove too - and its beautiful.

If you like animals (dolphins and orcas especially) this place is great.
The shows are terrific!

Re: Been to Discovery Cove?

We have some friends that went to Discovery Cove, and absolutely loved it!!! They told us it was something we had to do, but I about had a heart attack at the prices, and my boys were not really old enough to enjoy it, so we never went. Maybe in the next couple years.

Re: Been to Discovery Cove?

We went in Mar 03 and it was great! We will go again and will probably do the trainer for the day package. It is expensive but they only let in about 1000 max per day. I would go when it is warm...the water can be cold (it isn't heated for obvious reasons).

Re: Been to Discovery Cove?

The dolphin swim was cool, but just snorkeling along with the fish was an amazing feeling. More so because it was under your control unlike the swim with the dolphin. Me and my family had an absolute blast. Pick up an underwater disposable camera for everyone and have a great time! They only let 1000 people in per day so it is NEVER over crowded.

We took quite a few pics while were at Discovery cove, maybe I can dig some of them out. Its definitely something you should try if you have the opportunity.

It's actually a seperate park owned by Sea World (Think MK & AK).

Radio host Sean Hannity says its a great experience. But what's money to a guy that successful!

Re: Been to Discovery Cove?

A friend of ours also went during the 4th of July weekend 2 years ago. He said it was a great break from the WDW parks and the entire family loved it. We were thinking of doing it after seeing it on the Travel Channel, after they showed SeaWorld. Then the price shock set in. We are definately doing SeaWorld this trip, just waiting for the tickets to arrive. Maybe next time we will go to Discovery Cove. For now we will snorkle at TL.
