I just thought I'd share a good discount I found for Alamo Rent A Car that came in the recent mailing that was sent out to Disney Visa cardholders. The coupons in the center contained an Alamo coupon that gave a great rate when I tried it on the Alamo website. The coupon states that it gives savings up to 20% and a free day. I reserved a minivan for 8 days for $249 (this includes all taxes/fees). That was almost $100 less than most of the other quotes I had, and $50 less than the reservation I was holding with National. It does state that you have to use Disney Visa to pay for the rental.

karliebug- My sister and I both got this mailing this past week, so I was assuming it went out to everyone. It was the large "magazine" type advertisement that comes folded in half in a large envelope. There was a page of tear out coupons for all kinds of Disney offers in the center. I'll PM you with the details, but it does say you have to present the coupon and pay with your Disney Visa. I was just amazed at how much cheaper it came out on the web site. I can also check with my sister to see if she still has it. I know they're driving when they go in fall and won't need a rental.

OK, I went and dug this out of the trash so that I could see exactly what it was (Yuck!). Anyway, it does look like it would go out to all Disney Visa cardholders. It is a little 10 page magazine called "Disney Rewards". It says "Summer 2004" at the top and "Disney Visa Cardmember's Guide to All Things Disney" under the title. On the front page there's an article about Disney comic books coming back better than ever (ring a bell?). It came in a red and white envelope that said "Get to the magic faster...combine your rewards with family and friends! See inside for details." There are coupons for Disney shows, watches, collectibles, toys, etc. in the center (b/n pages 6 & 7). That's where the Alamo coupon was. Hope that helps! Like I said, I found the savings to be significantly better than anything else I'd checked.

I had to dig through my piles of papers,newspapers,mail, and bills to find it but i did after 15 mins. This coupon might work out pretty good for us. I didnt even notice it the first time i looked at the paper.

There is a code (Rate Code, Coupon Code, & ID #), you could PM me for it and try it, but it does say on the coupon that you need to present the coupon at time of rental. Maybe you could call Disney Visa and request the Rewards newsletter.

Mickey- Those are good rates, too. But mine came out as $191.82 for the minivan weekly rental, and then it took off $27.79 for the free day (rental must be at least 5 days for the free day). That comes out to $164.03 for weekly base rate for a minivan, by far the cheapest base rate I found. Of course, there are the $50 taxes/fees on top of that! (We had to add an extra day, as well. That's how ours came up to $249.)

Ooops. That is the special listed on the website for card holders. I didn't read that you got a coupon. Of course, it doesn't matter, I won't rent with Alamo ever again anywhere, so it is possible I just wasn't watching for it.

I got my coupon today in the disney rewards letter, and am going to try it. I'm curious, Mickey, why won't you rent from Alamo?

I'm curious about that too, Mickey. Did you have a bad experience? We used Alamo in Jan. 2003 and had no problems. It was very convenient, the service was great, and we were even upgraded from a minivan to a nice, clean full size van. We were very pleased with our experience at Alamo, but now you've got me wondering...

I tried the code,too, but didn't get as good as the results from dollar car rental. Try dollar.com and use rate code kiss3 and see what you get for your dates, it might be less. one good thing about car reservations is that you can cancel them with no penalties if you find a better deal elsewhere or even if the rates change with that same company.

Dollar was one of the ones I had tried (with that kiss3 code) that was almost $100 more ($337 instead of the $249 I got with the Alamo coupon). Are you sure you used all three of the codes on the coupon (ID, rate, & coupon code)? I know the rates can be different depending on the dates, though. I agree about being able to reserve and then cancel without penalty. It sure takes the stress out of booking and definitely makes it worthwhile to keep checking back for new discounts/rate changes.
