getting around Orlando...
We will be using the towncars to get to and from the airport, but we were thinking that we'd probably want to go out of WDW for one day to do some shopping. I read about the outlet mall that doesn't seem to be too far from Disney. Is there any Orlando city buses that are accessible from WDW?

Re: getting around Orlando...
Orlando city buses do travel to various locations around WDW. The outlet mall you're talking about is just a couple of miles from the main entrance to Downtown Disney, but I don't know if it's possible -- or how hard it would be if it is possible -- to get from WDW to the mall. Here's a link to the Orlando city bus system, which includes routes and schedules. At the very least, you could call them and ask if what you want to do is possible.

Re: getting around Orlando...
there are no city busses from wdw to the orlando premire outlet mall, your best bet would be a taxi from DTD over to there. I'm not exactly sure what the rate would be, But I'll see if I can find out for you. at the orlando premire outlets you can hop on the I ride trolley all the way up I drive and at the north end there are the belz factory outlet malls and within walkin distance of there is the festival bay mall (its a brand new mall not fully opened also has some different store in it.)

You can take Lynx 50 from TTC in Magic Kingdom, it will leave you somewhere in International Drive, in front of Sea World, there you can take the I Ride Trolley. That goes all International Drive.

Re: getting around Orlando...
be aware though if you want to go to the premire outlets you would need to head south from seaworld on the I ride trolley. (in other words the southbound I ride trolley stops on the other side of the street from where the link 50 drops off coming from wdw. If you were to factor in your time and all I would still say taking a disney bus to DTD and switching to a taxi would be you best bet, getting to the ttc can be time consuming.

Re: getting around Orlando...
when you leave disney property in a taxi cab make sure it is a checker cab, yellow cab (they are orange cabs that say yellow go figure) or a city cab company. those cabs are all run by mears the rest of the cabs down here i here horror stories about. the next warning I give is ask the taxi driver for the dispatch number or his phone number becuase Mears is not allowed to solicite buisness at the premire outlets only star taxi and the many guipsie taxi companies. trust me you want nothing to do with those cab companies ethier.

Re: getting around Orlando...
If you want a car for even a day or two, the cost of that added to the loimo to/from the airport equals the cost of a weekly car rental that you could then have whenever, and if , you want to use it.

Including tips, the cost of a car to/from the airport and one day of shopping at the outlets via cab will run you somewhere between $140-160. If you use that money on renting a compact car (including gas), you'd have flexibility all week long. If it sits unused in the parking lot for 3-4 days, why should that matter? OTOH, renting a car will subtract from your stay because there's the time it takes to pick it up (getting on the shuttle bus, signing the rental agreement, etc.) as well as dropping it off after you've gone to the gas station. Personally, I say skip the outlet mall. Outlet malls in Orlando are no different than outlet malls anywhere else in the country. Additionally, prices are rarely much better than what you'd find in a department store anyway. Why go to Florida to buy stuff that you could just as easily buy at home?

Re: getting around Orlando...
Matt, we don't have good outlet malls in Canada. The prices are waaaaayyy better than anything we find here, so when I get to the U.S. I always make a trip to the closest outlet mall to get some clothes for the family.
Besides, the cheapest car rental I found for the end of July was 190$ US. If I add on the cost of a child seat (which is 7$ a day, I am looking at 240$). With QuikSilver, I pay 95$ (child seat included), so even if it costs me 20$ more for a taxi to the outlets, I still save quite a bit. I don't want to sound cheap, but my Canadian money doesn't get me very far these days. I'd rather take the extra 100$ and use it on souvenirs and stuff. |

Re: getting around Orlando...
We paid $37 dollars for a one day car rental. This was for a midsize. We picked it up and dropped it off at the car care center right near the Magic Kingdom. Check mousesavers.com for rental codes.
