I have a question about tipping the drivers. Because you pay the driver up front for both trips. Tipically, you would tip 15 - 20%. Do you do that but cut it in half to cover both trips? I don't know that I want to tip $20 each way. Help!

pumpkin,

Tips are better splited in two (you might get two different drivers), in other words, $10.00 each way not $20.00.

Regards,

Gregory Nicolas.

To resurrect or start anew?

I'm always confused when it comes to tipping etiquette.

What would be an appropriate tip be for Tiffany, on a day trip ($65) to and from SeaWorld? Family of 5.

I might be considered a cheapskate, but I was thinking of $5 each way?

-Or-

Is $10 more appropriate?

I always tip a good amount because I am a waitress and I count on my tips to survive, so I would tip 10 each way. Have fun on your trip in 16 hours!

Re: Tipping Towncar Drivers

I think a good standard is 20% of the total bill. For a $65 trip, $10 is a bit meager, but $20 could be a bit much. How about $8 for each?

Of course, it's all dependent on service.

On one occasions, I tipped one of Gregory's drivers $20 for a one-way, because he was that much fun, as well as doing a terrific above-the-call job at carting our luggage around.

Typically though, I tip $10 / trip.

Have fun!

Re: Tipping Towncar Drivers

If it was me I would do 13$ each way, but he asked $5 or $10 so $10 would be the better choice.

Re: Tipping Towncar Drivers

20% each way is is doable.

Like I said, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to appropriate tips for different services.

Thank you both.

Need some clarification:

First, are you making a reservation for a towncar via a company? (i.e., do you cal 1-800 -XXX-XXXX) and make a reservation for the car to pick you up at XYZ? Do you pay with a credit card?

If so, USUALLY, the tip is included in the price you pay. The car service I use ALWAYS includes the tip.

But, if you are using a towncar that was summoned by the door-person or bell-hop or etc, chances are the tip is NOT included in the cost of the trip. If that is the case, I never tip less that 20% or $5.00, whichever is more. IF the traffic is specifically bad, or you are in a rush and he accomodates you, a few extra percentage points above 20% is appropriate.

Hope this helps, a little.

Re: Tipping Towncar Drivers

You absolutely should tip both ways. Take the % and divide in two. Reason number one is you could have two different drivers each way. I have had that a few times. Why should other guy get someone else's tip? I usually give $10 each way...makes things easier.

This is what I do too, $10 each way. (This is for an $85-$90 trip from MCO to a WDW resort.) I have never had the same towncar driver both ways, so I would feel awful if I tipped it all to the first person.

However, I adjusted my tip to the last driver I used from Tiffany Towncar. You can still adjust the tip to reflect service quality. Our driver was late, rude, and drove like such a madman that I feared for my life. He did NOT get his full $10.

I agree. The tip should reflect the service.
